360 Shmups -- Which version?
360 Shmups -- Which version?
Hello Guys,
I've noticed that quite a few 360 shmups include several revisions for a given game, and each revision usually has an arcade mode & 360 mode. An example, that comes to mind, is Deathsmiles: arcade; 1.1 (arcade/360); MBL (arcade/360); etc.
Are the modes for a particular version essentially the same game (same arrangement, slowdown, etc.) with graphics tuned for a particular display type?

Only for Deathsmiles and Futari. Those are the only two titles which feature the original arcade graphics. Later CAVE conversions kept the naming (Arcade and 360), but not to describe the graphics, but the feature set instead.

Sorry for what is probably a set of horrible questions.... Below are a few questions that pop'd in my head based on thatFudoh wrote:Only for Deathsmiles and Futari. - What exactly is included in "the feature set?"
- Based on Guwange, I figure the feature set might include controls optimized for a joystick as opposed to an arcade controller?
- Different enemy arrangement or scoring mechanics?
- ....

If it has the same "feature set", then that means it's (or at least tries to be) the exact same game, except it might have HD graphics as opposed to the Arcade resolution.chronic1 wrote:Sorry for what is probably a set of horrible questions.... Guwange has original Arcade mode, Guwange Blue and 360 Arrange. Neither are HD, the former is typical Guwange, the middle is like a refined version and 360 Arrange is a twin-stick casual version that lets you control the player with one stick and the demon with the other.

Espgaluda II has an original Arcade graphics mode, doesn't it?Fudoh wrote:Only for Deathsmiles and Futari. Those are the only two titles which feature the original arcade graphics. Somebody told me that the Arcade mode of EspII retains the intro/gem glitch, while 360 mode fixes it. Dunno if that's true or not though.

I just pop'd in EspII. The Black Label revision appeared to look as good as the 360 revision; however, it was a totally different game. F'n hard!Special World wrote:Somebody told me that the Arcade mode of EspII retains the intro/gem glitch, while 360 mode fixes it. Dunno if that's true or not though.
I think EspII & Futari are my favorite in the Shooting Collection so far. Maybe I missed something about MMP&PS, but those were a little whacky. haha

MMP+PS are both fantastic, but they take some work to really get down with. Maybe not Pork, but Pink Sweets definitely. Pink Sweets Arrange seems pretty much universally adored on these boards though, as long as you're playing for score.

Correct. On the 360 port, Arcade Mode retains the tutorial glitch while 360 Mode has it removed. Technically, this alters scoring potential in the first stage between each version (and mostly for Ageha players... although honestly, the glitch quickly becomes annoying to abuse).Special World wrote:Somebody told me that the Arcade mode of EspII retains the intro/gem glitch, while 360 mode fixes it.
Re: 360 Shmups -- Which version?
I suppose I'll be assembling documentation related to the various revisions & modes. Is there a preferred place for the documentation to go? Wasn't sure if there was a wiki or if a new thread could be linked as a sub-thread in a specific sticky.
Thanks.
Thanks.
