Actually, shortly after posting that I noticed someone beat me to it:

Although I wouldn't go so far as to say it doesn't hold a candle, Mushi Maniac, despite that tap tap tapping, is such a beautiful game.

I play a variety of different games each day rather than focusing on one resulting in me never being amazing at any one particular game.

Also I agree with everyone here who thinks Mushihimesama > Futari. Both are great though.

I wouldn't really mind at all if CAVE went under, partially because I think they've hit their high point and don't really have anywhere else to go, partially because I think it'd be good for the genre as a whole if some new blood comes in, and partially because this means that SH3 support can get put back into MAME, and I can play Ibara and Mushi in all their arcade-accurate glory.

In order for the shmup genre to survive, developers need to focus on providing the best home experience, and encourage players to play for score (via integration of online features, see Geometry Wars for a good example), rather than trying to ape the arcade experience on a home console and expecting players to put two and two together themselves. You can't really fault people for credit feeding and saying "this game is too short" when they don't know any better. I'm not saying it's the game's fault, but, well, it's at least partially the game's fault.

From what little I've played, I vastly prefer vanilla Ibara to Kuro; ironically, I find Kuro to be overly restrictive.

I think Raiden III is ugly as sin, and yet I can't stop playing it.

I read the ST for Mushi1 and still have no fucking clue how the scoring system works in that game.

I have no qualms about playing on easy mode until I can clear it, then moving up to normal difficulty. Difficulty settings exist for a reason.

Related note, IOSYS's "Overdrive" was the worst thing to ever happen to the Touhou/shmup world, not because it's a bad song or a bad video or anything, but because the phrase "it's unacceptable to play on easy modo unless you're an elementary school kid" is practically the definition of toxic. Anyone who actually subscribes to that mantra is an asshole.

I think Mushi's skyrocket technique is possibly the worst tactical thing ever created for a shoot and that's why I think i'll never be good at this great game. What a waste.

  • I still haven't 1cc'd espgaluda
While Hellsinker is one of my favourite shmups, I don’t like Akashicverse and really think it tries too hard to be cool.
After being recommended it on the forum, the main reason I continued playing Darius Gaiden for a time was because of its soundtrack and visuals and not its gameplay
I can't stand older shmups that lack a built in autofire button (I use mame autofire for darius gaiden).
I had never heard of Muchi Muchi Pork before I heard it was being ported (or at least knew that it was a cave game).
A few years ago I used to frequently get mixed up between Armed Police Batrider and the old Mutant Space Bats of Doom games for dos.
I want raizing to come back and make a sequel to Kingdom Grandprix
I quite enjoy the touhou games, but absolutely cannot stand most of the fanbase (or atleast the sterotype of them, because I hope no one is actually like that.) I also cannot stand how much attention they get when almost every other shmup gets almost none (in the grand scheme of things).

I actually consider the Mushi's serie as a Viewpoint like made by Cave (appart of the weird scrolling) The colors, the insects, the music, the vibe, the bullets color etc... My favorites games, ever !

* I wish I had enough money so I could take over Cave's shmup section team for them to keep going what they do.

* Despite the amazing player he is & the respect I have for what he archieved, I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes the STG Weekly show with GUS in it, as I thought he has the most annoying voice I have ever heard in my life. Sorry

You what.

http://youtu.be/AeLi1lcBiAQ

You think this sounds even vaguely similar to any piece of music from a Mushi game? I'm legitimately confused. As an aside, the Viewpoint soundtrack is INCREDIBLE and the primary reason I enjoy the game as much as I do.

If you wanna talk about games with music similar to Viewpoint, there's only really one that comes to mind:

Obviously, it is not the same "style" completly and more obviously, there is a 20 years difference between these two games, but I mean just the vibe, happy vibe, some techno-ish beat with melodies and slight of jazz-ish touch (it's all -ish). No ? Nevermind, they are all great.

Prepare for more confessions from a kusotaste-haver:

* Mushihimesama Original > Futari (all modes)
* Mushihimesama Maniac and Ultra can go get fucked
* R-Type LEO is the best R-Type aside from Delta
* I haven't 1CC'd ESPGaluda, though I have gotten very close
* I prefer older STG without autofire
* I think Taito STG are fantastic, including the terrible ones
* Loops suck unless each one is fairly short (15~20 minutes each)
* ESP Ra.De. is silly but I actually enjoy the milking
* I think autobombs fucking suck
* I think excessive slowdown fucking sucks
* Milking and boss part destruction is amazing and awesome
* 'Shmup' is dumb and everybody should just call them STG

Don't feel bad, D-force was one of the first games I ever got on SNES so I loved it too. My Dad bought it randomly because it looked cool. I loved it too, probly one of the games I played most on the system. Gotta love canceling all the bullets by using 3D movement; totally broken.

I have been enjoying the batch of homebrew Dreamcast games(Sturmwind, Pink Bullets, Gunlord) I got a few weeks ago more than anything Cave has done since Futari.

I want to find the server that hosts this site and crack open the hard drive and take a dump in it. Then I want to position by ass above the processor and take a dump in the processor fan. Then I want to find the air slots that let in air to the power supply and guess what, straight up shit the holes up. My only regret being that everyone here isn't in the server room to smell it.

Fuck the term STG, I refuse to describe a shmup as a game where you tell high-pitched sounds to go away. :V

It's the only episode I've watched that I had to stop half way, not because of his voice though... I found it cringe-worthy. No offence intended.

- I dislike Garegga a lot
- Medalling is stupid, but forgivable in MMP
- I don't like milking
- Climax mode in Akai Katana was very fun for me, much more so than Slash/Shin
- Deathsmiles got me into Cave games, I hate moe crap but that game was easy enough to get into
- Mamoru-kun is easy and broken, but the music is absolutely godly
- I like Progear, a lot, but I'll never be good at it
- My favorite Gradius games are II and IV. Yes, IV. I have yet to play Gaiden
- My favorite vert to play is Mushi 1.5, especially on Maniac Max
- I regard Daioujou and Ketsui to be the overall best shmups

For anyone complaining about the term STG: the Japanese also use the abbreviation SHT.
