Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Does anyone have any info on this? Really would like to know before I take the plunge. As I don't have a Jap PS3.

P4 Arena showed that even before you couldn't be sure - as the PS3 always had the capability to enforce a region lock. It simply was and is not a common practice.

Well the PS3 version of "Under Defeat HD" was released without a region lock and that didn't prevent the release of "Under Defeat HD Deluxe" (PS3) in the other territories - so it would be silly of 5pb.Games to pull an Atlus. Atlus was primarily trying to keep cheaper NTSC-U copies out of Japan - the same reasoning Nintendo used to impose region locks on 3DS games. All of 5pb.Games PS3 games so far have no region protection (being Japanese visual novels is probably protection enough):

Dunamis 15 (PS3)
Beyond the Future Fix: The Time Arrow (PS3)
Robotics;Notes (PS3)

Because of this play-asia predicts that Ketsui will have no region protection:
Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra [Limited Edition] (PS3)

Granted it would be extremely annoying if it turned out to be region locked (...?Cave made them do it?...). But unless you are gunning for a limited edition there is probably no harm waiting out the actual release.

Even if the game disc has no region protection - it is likely that the Blu-ray in the limited edition package will be a region A disc. So people (without region free BD players) in the region B and C territories won't be happy about that.

Just preordered it from AmiAmi. Since I'm a PS3 owner this is my first Cave shmup as well as my first imported game. Pretty excited! :D

New hi-score? The old one(from Ketsui DL)was 560 mil IIRC? Looks like I have to order the limited edition too, since I don't have the Ketsui OST.

It's much lower than that I'm sure, something like 520m I think.

It was 512,010,888.

So yeah that's a huge improvement.

So, will the LE be the only one including the superplay? Or is it just the OSTs that are the extras?

Only the LE comes with the superplay BD and the OSTs.

Still up in the air on this since I don't actually own a copy of ketsui...Superplay is tempting. Is PS3 bluray player region locked?

The Blu-ray player is region locked, yes. However in your case it won't matter, since Japan and North America are in the same Blu-ray region.

This port will most likely sell much less than the 360 port. But in the unlikely event that it sells the same or a bit better, the most you'll see is a PS3 port of Bullet Soul.

Do they actually region lock their superplay disc? I hope not :(

I wouldn't be so sure since this release arguably won't be region-locked, while the X360 release is. Presumably, there are shmup fans out there (outside of Japan) who didn't go through the trouble of importing a Japanese X360.

Probably due to the cluster-fuck that surrounds it.

By this point, I would bet that the number of shmup "fans" who both own a PS3 and would be willing to spend ~$70 to import a shmup (yet not willing to import a JP 360) isn't as high as you think it is. But I'm sure some are out there!

Or they are putting one out at a time, to see if there's any interest, and to avoid saturating the market. Unless there are still licensing issues causing problems, I'm sure they'll consider releasing it if Ketsui does well. Would make sense.

What is the chance that Ketsui does well, though?

Of course one question to ask would be what "doing well" in this context means. If there were no additional licensing fees and porting wasn't overly expensive (depending on the in-house knowledge of 5bp), then the sales target probably isn't particularly high. I mean, it's not as if they expect to sell a million copies...

I think Ketsui would have to do REALLY well for them to consider it, and I firmly believe that the chances of that happening aren't very high.

I'd love to be totally proven wrong though! It would be great if every single shmup ever released on the 360 were to get ported to the PS3, so that I wouldn't need both a 360 and a PS3 anymore. :D

My guess would be:

~5k = acceptable, but not worth major future effort
~10k = decent, will most likely port Bullet Soul soon
~15k = good, sold at least as much as the 360 port, will definitely port Bullet Soul and maybe try to get DOJ ported
~20k+ = amazing, will definitely port both Bullet Soul and DOJ, and may even try to license more shmups from Cave for PS3 porting

I would certainly hope they don't region lock it. But I have several PS2 game bonus DVDs that are region locked, so it wouldn't surprise me if they do. DaiOuJou, Espgaluda, Hokuto no Ken, etc. So yeah, it would definitely be worth asking ahead of time.
