Obviously I'm trying to get all of the good shmups. I already have the Cave shooting collection, Sai Dai Ou Jyou, Ketsui, Radiant Silvergun, and Ikaruga. I'm also saving up for Raiden Fighters Aces (god damn is the JPN physical version expensive!).
My question is: What are some of the good non-shmups games on the system? It doesn't have to be exclusive (tho I DO have a PS3 already) but I am particularly interested in games that look and play the best on 360. I've spent almost all of this generation focusing on retro stuff so I don't know much about what's out there. I do want to get Bayonetta as I heard the 360 version is much better than the PS3 one. I'm into just about any genre. There's a lot of 360 games out there but I generally trust the opinion of most board members here more than the average review site so by all mean, help a guy out!
Thanks for that. Yeah, I heard those games were good. They seem to be pretty cheap too, prob because they've sold so well compared to most other 360 games in Japan
Namco 666? haha, nice! Ridge Racer 6 was already a given but I'll prob get Tekken on PS3 so I can play at my brother's place with him. I've never played an Ace Combat game but I do like me some After Burner so maybe I should check it out
Armored Core 4A/V (the 360 versions perform better)
Child of Eden (Rez with a rhythm based scoring system and more challenge)
Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram (if you don't have the DC version + very good netcode)
Virtual-On Force
Trials Evolution
Left 4 Dead 1&2 (if you don't have a gaming pc)
Monster Hunter Frontier (haven't played but seems popular among japanese players at least)
Lost Odyssey
Maybe some fighting games if you're into them since some have 1-2 frames less input lag on 360?
edit: oh yeah Senko no Ronde, duh lol

It was buried in my long list actually. Sorry...
I just noticed it, oops . Actually I already have Halo 3 and will probably play though it soon. It's shmups.com, we can't go for too long without some FPS bashing
Be sure to give the XBLIG title of Prismatic Solid a spin on the 360. It has an arcade-spec sliky smooth 60fps framerate and is very easy on the eyes. Was created by the same guy whom handled the development of iS: internal section on the PSX platform. PS has that slick "internal section" type of visual vibe as well. Plenty of eye candy to assault the senses indeed. The opening CG polygonal intro is absolutely breathtaking. Most other indie 360 games can't hold a candle to the unique visuals that PS delivers in spades.

Onechanbara Z Kagura is my favorite non-shmup JP 360 game. It's everything Lolipop Chainsaw could have been. If you like fighters Ougon Musoukyoku X is a cool exclusive, but there is a superior PC version available. Avoid Phantom Breaker because its a total piece of shit.

I'm curious if you play with a controller or Kinect. Opinions on which is better seems mixed. I don't really want to get a kinect just for one game but I am a huge Rez fan

It's fine with a 360 controller IMO, haven't played using kinect. The only gripe I have is that the cursor using controller is a little slow, as it is the extra stage that gets really hectic is probably easier using kinect. I guess if kinect's price drops drastically it could be worth buying.
Also, Rez HD is a nice port as the graphics work very well at high res

As you don't seem to have a fixation on the Master Chief you should really try the much maligned "Halo 3: ODST" for the single player. It's actually a blast to watch one of Mythic Tyrant's Halo 3: ODST Legendary Walktroughs and then play the same mission with scoring/medals on. Platinum Game's "Vanquish" (which has already been mentioned) takes that single player style and attitude to the point of a "Third Person Shmup".
I like what I read of The First Templar (probably better on PC, though). What other local co-op games (other than Gears of War) are of note on 360? Right now I'm particulary interested in stuff that either is 360-exclusive, or doesn't work quite as well on the PC. Some Gauntlet-likes perhaps.
P.S. According to Wikipedia, Hunted: The Demon's Forge on 360 is most rich in features:
The game supports cross-regional co-operative play on all platforms, but the random match-making feature is regional on PC and PlayStation 3, and cross-regional on Xbox 360.
