Connecting an RGB modded PC Engine to SVGA monitor?

Post by TonyN »

Hi, I have found the answer to parts of my question, but not in full, so here we go.

I have a PC Engine which has been RGB modded and gives out RGB via a SCART lead.
I used to use it on an old CRT Phillips monitor which is now deceased!
What do I need (cheap please) to use my RGB PCE on a SVGA monitor (the monitor has a integral VGA lead going into it and no socket on rear) and if possible, but not essential using with a SAMSUNG 37 inch LCD TV.

Thanks in anticipation.

You need an upscaler, ranging from $50 to $500. Unfortunately PC Engine is one of the systems which tends to cause problems and it might eventually not be as straight forward as anticipated. Your choices: http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/

Thank you for helping, somebody suggested I get these two items, but I can't see how a SCART input would fit?..

You would usually get a Sync Strike (Scart to HD15 converter and sync cleaner), the GBS8220 and a scanline device.

The GBS8220s requires a clean sync signal. If your PCE provices a clean RGB sync signal or not depends on the RGB mod.

Sorry to be a bit dim, but starting at the RGB SCART output lead from the PC Engine,
how many devices would I need? And how would they be connected to enable me to use the VGA input lead lead at the back of my SVGA CRT monitor?

I am new to this.

For plug'n play you need a Sync Strike, a GBS8220, the matching connection cable and power supply/supplies. Sync Strike and the cable are available from Arcadeforge. The SLG3000 or MiniSLG is optional, depends on wether you want scanlines or not.

Thanks for your patience Fudoh, with scan lines seems better(?)
But how would I get my SCART into the PCB, from the pictures I have seen it appears to accept only phono or VGA connectors?

That's what you use the Sync Strike for.
