Great that it's not for a console so that I won't feel like I wasted my hard-earned money for having bought the games individually (well, both packs and Gaiden).

This may sound fanboyish, but...arrange soundtracks of Capcom music. Also X1 is a great game and now you won't need a Super Nintendo to play it.

Anyways, if people who already own a PSP want to buy it, all well and good, I just don't see why nonexclusive games are getting everyone in a frenzy.
What oxtsu said. Having a thread on one compilation while slamming folks for looking forward to another is just stupid all around. And the Gradius collection has extra features too. ^^^

Savestates? Eff that.

I wouldn't mind having a small, Gradius V style hitbox though..

I'm not buying it for one title and refusing to buy anything else. This is simply the one title that's finally pushing me over the edge. I wanted Wipeout but that wasn't enough, I wanted the new GTA (because hey, Liberty City) but that wasn't enough, now there are three games I really want, in addition to a better PSP Capcom Collection, and that's enough.

Besides, you say there are better portable games out there... well, for shooters, not really. I'm a hoizontal fan, Gradius is my overall favorite series, and Gaiden is only matched by Darius Gaiden for me. Having it portable is a huge selling point.

re: dementia. The save states are at least nice for shooter novices or for folks who want to get better at certain levels or bosses. An extra feature is an extra feature.

edit: Also, now that I think about it, increasing your ship's size (assuming that means the entire sprite of the fighter), maybe a possible small nod to the invincibility power up in Parodius? :P

This is a board where many people will ignore difficulty options and then complain a game is too hard or too easy. Never underestimate their ability to turn an optional feature into a major downfall. :P

Nobody's getting 'slammed.' At risk of sounding like Recap, reread what I just said.

It's like people getting in a frenzy over Gradius 6 for PS3. It gets announced and people are like 'now I *need* a PS3!' when we don't have the faintest idea of what the game or port quality will be like...

Seems like a silly reason to *need* to get a PSP when you can get these games already on a cheaper format. If you want it for the portability and extras, fine, but I doubt the majority of people really *need* that...

If PSP Taito Memories has portable G. Darius, I might *need* one myself...

Please give up this line of reasoning. Nobody *needs* videogames. We're dealing with wants here, which are perfectly subjective so leave other forum members be with theirs.

That's the point.

Excessive wanting over the littlest things, I don't get it. (tell me the Gradius 6 on PS3 thing is reasonable. Please)

But I'll "leave them be."

like Rando once said, stay the way you are, it's the worst punishment you could have...

Konami decides to give Gradius fans what is arguably the most value packed and varied shooter compilation ever and we get gripes like this, only on the internet:
Neon: Seems like a silly reason to *need* to get a PSP when you can get these games already on a cheaper format. If you want it for the portability and extras, fine, but I doubt the majority of people really *need* that...
Text in bold: You just said exactly why people want this and think it's cool. Plus, as I said before, I still haven't gotten around to playing Gradius Gaiden so this pack will be an even bigger win for me.

Text in italics: No, I don't "need" portable Gradius conversions but it sure would be nice since A) I am a Gradius fan and I really like my PSP, B) they will look gorgeous on the system's screen and C) getting to play perfect ports of Gradius on the way to a friend's house out of town or in the office instead of having to fiddle with an emulator, keyboard & sidewinder pad while speaking with customers = win.

Going by your stubborn "logic" here we also don't "need" the Megaman X collection since "we can already get all the X games on other formats," right?

Seriously dude, I feel sorry for your kid someday when he asks you to buy a game that he WANTS. :P j/k

Now, can we please give this extremely tedious discussion a rest? All you're doing at this point is irritating people and again, your point is 100% null given your thread on the X collection. Open mouth, insert shoe. The end.

It's called hyperbole, you dim jackass. If somebody says "I can't wait" they obviously can wait because they are waiting. If somebody says "I've been waiting years for this" they haven't literally been sitting around for years doing nothing but waiting. And if someone says "I need a PSP now" it really means "this is desirable enough to make a purchase of a PSP justifiable for me." Turning this into a semantic pissing contest because you don't like the series ("it's just crappy Gradius, hurrrr") isn't what this thread needed.

Yay, wonderful news! PSP was conceived to play these games: that screen wanted a Gradius so badly. 8)

Now, I hope the luscious PSP screen is sexy enough to arouse Irem crew and do an R-Type Fukkatsu on it.

You already can play Pulstar on the PSP via the Neo CD emulator FWIW.

Shapermc mentioned something at LiveJournal about the PSP screen having a low refresh-rate and being very blurry, something that could potentially ruin these games.

As someone who has owned a PSP since the launch week I see no reason why these games would not look great on its screen. But I guess folks who are more experienced videophiles may notice things I don't. *shrug*

ROCK ON! :D :D Now I am even more excited that I'm getting a PSP for Christmas! :D

Although, OT, I have heard complaints about the way some games play on it because it only has one analog stick, rather then two, like the PS2.

Konami should've. and could've, made Contra, Super C, and Contra 3 unlockables on either Shattered Soldier or Neo Contra.

This was just posted on NCSX today:

http://www.ncsx.com/2005/ncs110705/ncs1107u.htm

Konami brings Gradius love to the PSP on February 9, 2006 when they bundle four Gradius games on one UMD. That's Gradius, Gradius II, Gradius III, and Gradius IV. Various online sources throw Gradius Gaiden in the mix but the preorder solicitation from Konami only lists Gradius I to IV.
In addition to all that shmup action, a versatile save feature allows saving at anytime on any game, various in-game options to enhance the challenge, and a bonus gallery full of art, movies, and music from other Gradius games will make it into the UMD. All that Gradius goodness for the price of Y4980 or US$49 from NCS. Preorders ship on February 9, 2006.

Ack. -_-;;
1) We'll just have to wait and see if Gaiden comes as well. I'd prefer Gaiden to the other four.
2) There's always PSX emulation on the PSP... if it works properly, that is.
