I had a floater once, but it went away again after about 2 weeks.

Really realized then how much good eyesight actually rocks.

I remember having noticeable ones in my late teens that disappeared. Hopefully now in my late twenties it'll be the same thing, but it's been a year looking at these same two. One looks like the cell enemies late in Gradius, the other's more like a tiny crosshatch. -_- Only had the photography done to make sure it wasn't a detached retina or something else serious. Oh well, annoyance beats blindness...

I really hate how when thundercats 2011 first came out, people were all "ZOMG THIS IS AWESOME!" But now that its been a few years and is no longer in productions people are like "meh, the original is much better"

Why is it that after awhile, people always come back saying the original of anything is far better?

Also that people hate the new versions of The Grinch and Willy Wonka. No, the original is NOT better, they are two completely different things. You aren't SUPPOSED to compare the two. Sure The Grinch is a little wackier than he is in the cartoon, but who cares? Sure Willy Wonka is a little pale and vaguely resembles michael jackson, but its still a good movie!

A 'little wackier', that's all you found wrong with the remake? Really?

All of the out-of-place adult innuendo and badly timed forced humour really made it feel awkward, even without having to compare it to the original. It's simply a disrespectful work when you look at the more innocent, fun, whimsical books that Dr. Seuss wrote.

Because nine times out of ten, the original IS better. The remakes tend to get early applause due to Wow Factor alone but once that wears off, people realize there's not much meat to the finished thing. Although IIRC, Thundercats 2011 actually had something going for it, but nothing I saw convinced me it would replace the original.

Keep in mind, the reason remakes exist in the first place is because the people making them are creatively bankrupt and are bringing back a dead thing in lieu of making something new. In that sort of creative environment, is it any wonder most remakes fail?

(That said... I liked the Speed Racer live-action movie. There, I said it).

I'm actually sort of offended that someone actually likes the Jim Carrey version of The Grinch. I didn't think people like that existed.

I actually gave that a rewatch with my nephew and found it decent. It's certainly not the worst thing I've watched.

Half kidding, but "too much action" almost bugs me. Almost. Unless it's really poorly made and the set-pieces aren't interesting, then you can moan.

Well I haven't seen that movie in years, so my memory might be a bit off...

But I stand by my position of the Willy Wonka remake.

To be honest, the Willy Wonka remake was one of those movies I avoided religiously from the day I first saw trailers for it. The original is one of my favorite movies and I pretty much knew that no matter what, I'd never be able to give the remake a fair shake.

On that subject, sometimes it bothers me that so many people prefer Jackson's LOTR to Ralph Bakshi's. Really, the only advantage Jackson has is that he finished the story... an advantage that's immediately undone by how much he fucked it up while he was at it (most notably in completely undermining Frodo's character and entire role just so he could focus more on Aragorn being badass and add in the romance subplot). Ralph Bakshi's attempt had it's fair share of flaws but at least he didn't make arbitrary changes to the story just for the sake of making changes.

I'm confused, were there two versions of the trilogy made, or did one guy take over for the other guy?

What AntiFritz posted.

Decades before Peter Jackson's movies, Ralph Bakshi tried to adapt it as a six-hour-long animated movie. Unfortunately the studio pulled the rug out from under him and (without his consent) released a half-finished movie as "Lord of the Rings, Part One" (there was never a part two).

Despite the unfinished nature (all the video and DVD releases end with a narration saying good eventually won) IMO it beats out Jackson's film easily.

Well there was a Bakshi sequal made for tv, titled Return of the king. I never knew this was not a theater release until now, as I pilfered them both with techmology.

I like some of Bakshi's work, but his adaptation of LoTR is a complete mess, even despite the studio interference. Zero character development, awkward visuals, anticlimactic ending, and it's low on swordplay and action. I kind of hate it, really. Bakshi in general is real hit or miss.

"Return of the King" may have been intended to complete the story, but Ralph Bakshi had NO involvement with it.

Really, it takes so many liberties with the story that its basically incompatible with Bakshi, and can only be understood if you've read the novel.
drauch wrote:I like some of Bakshi's work, but his adaptation of LoTR is a complete mess, even despite the studio interference.
Note about language: the phrase "even despite the [insert thing here]" implies that [insert thing here] was a good thing that could've improved matters.

Example: "MLP's final episode was terrible even despite the somewhat catchy musical numbers."
"The Grinch was terrible despite Jim Carrey's fine performance."
"The Berlin Wall would probably have fallen even despite efforts to make sure it didn't."

So saying "even despite the interference" implies that Bakshi needed studio oversight to make a good movie.

I think what you meant to say is "even outside of problems caused by studio interference."

Zero character development... I think you could say the same about the book, because everything that was in Fellowship is in Bakshi.

Awkward visual... definitely a matter of preference.

Anticlimactic ending... it's unfair to say that this is "despite studio interference" because this flaw was CAUSED by studio interference. It wasn't Bakshi's choice to end the movie like that.

Low on Swordplay and Action... ummm.... just a question: Have you read the book?

(Agree on Bakshi being hit or miss, sadly. I liked Wizards and Fire and Ice, but some of his other movies haven't done it for me)

Still actually need to watch Coonskin. I've had it for years now, just haven't gotten around to it. I know he proclaims that it was his best film and all, so I'm pretty excited to watch it. I kind of hate Wizards. Like Fritz the cat quite a bit. Absolutely love Fire & Ice. I think we all know how Cool World is. Still need to check out Heavy Traffic and American Pop as well, sadly. Seems like I've still yet to see some of his more revered work, although I'm kind of worried since Wizards is often praised and I'm certainly not a fan.

Spacebar not scrolling down on Soundcloud. I know why it doesn't [spacebar for pause/play makes more sense really], but it's still different from how my browser reacts on every other webpage, and I'll pause on accident while scrolling through a list of songs. Annoying.

People that tweet pictures or post YouTube videos of their young children publicly. A certain editor of a certain retro gaming magazine shouting out his children's names whilst they are wearing their school informs for example. Well done, you managed to father despite being a disgusting plonker so show the world. What you want? A medal? Fucking disgustingly irresponsible.

You know what really annoys me? When it pours crazy amounts of rain for like 30 seconds, but it's still long enough to completely drench you, then it clears up and gets sunny.
