Great news for Modesto/Stanislaus shmuppers...

Post by Icecap Veiwin »

(There has to be some of you out there...)

Gunbird 2 has recently been added to McHenry Bowl's miniscule arcade. This is, according to the Xenocide files, a solid sequel to the original Gunbird. From what I saw of it, it looked pretty damn slick.

Other games of note are Soul Calibur 2, Time Crisis 3, and DDR Extreme (if you're into that).

However, according to the staff, the machine is currently "out of order". I'll be back with updates...

Yes, it is a solid title, and full of the usual Psikyo style. Be warned though, it's tough as hell!

There's the original Raiden at Modesto Wal-Mart as well...

Yo Ice Veiwin,

Thanks for the cool update on the Gunbird 2 arcade cabinet in Modesto, CA area. I did not know that. I'll have to go check it out. ^_~

There is another arcade shmup title by the name of Raiden from Seibu Kaihatsu/Fabtek at the Modesto, CA location of Wal-Mart.

There was a Strikers 1945 III arcade cabinet at the Riverbank, CA
"Galaxy 12" movie theater but the Patton Vending Co. (which owns it) hauled it away after leaving it there for about a good year or year & a half.

There is also the Raiden Fighters & Strikers 1945 II arcade shmup cabinets at the Strikers Zone International in Manteca, CA as well.

So yeah, there are some arcade shmup cabinets sprinkled around the Greater Modesto, CA area and beyond it.

what's this 'arcade cabinet' thing you guys always refer to?

sorry ... I'm just horribly jealous. Last shmup I saw in the wild was RFJet at a golf driving range in Wauconda.

I'd love a nice Psikyo shmup. ESPECIALLY Strikers III, Gunbird 2 if I had to.

Usually for the USA arcade market, the term "arcade cabinet" is meant that it has the official U.S. arcade title marquee (backlit, of course...but some U.S. officially released arcade shmup titles never had backlit marquee signs like the Jaleco/Psikyo USA Bios 1995 version of Gunbird for example) along with all the essential arcade instruction strips and miscelleanous info strips as well. Of course, some arcade shumps are just housed in a generic arcade cabinet with a generic marquee sign stating the game title and no original arcade paperwork but generic instructions on how to play the game.

Yes, a serious gaming session of Strikers 1945 III (or Strikers 1999 if you have the original Japanese Bios version of that particular PCB) is a sweet shmup experience, indeed.

PC Engine Fan, I already knew of the Raiden cab at Walmart. I live about...ten miles away from it, however, and within walking distance of McHenry Bowl. It's been there forever :P

edit for clarification: As in, the Raiden cab.

Another edit: There's also a Strikers 1945 Plus cab in the Round Table Pizza about a quarter of a mile up the road from McHenry. But the screen isn't tate'd. I know, me and my friend played it once. It was pretty fun though :P
