According to Major Nelson when you are banned from live that will only mean banned from online gaming but your games will still work and the online checks will still be done .

MS should instruct their support employees better as they know less then us and spread FUD .

Microsoft PR seems to be deflecting almost all questions onto their "family sharing" feature now.

They still won't in any way clarify that feature of course.

But this wasn't previously clarified that I know about, and why shouldn't we look to an official MS source like that Twitter account to clarify what they aren't going to reveal upfront anyway?

I would hope bans are something these people can't screw up, but keep in mind that any time there's a problem for a person to deal with...it'll be the rank and file, and I wouldn't say it's because of stupidity so much as due to Microsoft's strange policies not being clear to anybody, including their own employees.

Short sighted to not see the wider problem with it. If it sells well, it legitimises an anti-consumer business model. We need it to fail so badly nobody ever tries it again.

Oh, they'll try it again no matter how badly it fails, we just have to do what we can to ensure it doesn't succeed next time either, nor the time after that.

Are Microsoft really that bored of the games industry that they're trying to commit seppuku to get out of it? The information they're spitting out is confusing and occasionally contradictory. Not really a good way to promote your new console.

I'm with everybody else that one aspect Microsoft has clearly dropped the ball on is clearly communicating Xbox One details to its PR personnel (and then giving them free reign to answer the public's question). When there are conflicting answers about easily anticipated questions such as whether the system is region free, what happens to a banned account's linked games, what can be shared in a family, what's in the Day One package, and even whether there's a power button, it appears as though the Xbox division has weak support management. And if this is the level of public-facing disorganization, I shudder to think of the internal state of affairs.

All the comments by Microsoft execs about helping gamers by moving digital isn't convincing anyone and is only exacerbating the distrust between gamers and Microsoft. The 24-hour check-in system is too much and is unrelated to the push for all-digital. I get the security concerns but if Apple doesn't need it, then Microsoft shouldn't either. If Microsoft really wanted to be earnest in going digital, then it should've offered its launch games for $40. But with an all-take, no-give strategy, it's relying so much on the traditional "games sell systems" business mentality I mentioned last time. The Xbone has more launch games that interest me and it doesn't seem as if that most Americans will really be affected by the anti-consumerist limitations but it seems like this is the console generation where future implications trump multi-homing costs.

I don't entirely trust Sony either though. There have been a few too many "read between the lines" announcements to take anything their reps have said at face value. But as if now, it's good to see everyone in support.

Strange: http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/12/ea-did- ... -game-drm/
Trying to have their pie but not wanting to eat the response, maybe? It would be pretty hilarious if Microsoft cooked this all up themselves - you have to admit, since they're a big publisher, that they're quite capable of coming up with the idea on their own. Rather strange that EA would now say they're still deliberating - they must've known something about this for a long while.

Moore seems pretty straightforward here though, good for him if he's being honest - he may well be. Christ, MS is spiking the lemonade with this one.

If the physical media was free and you paid as you went with DRM thats fine. But the model MS are touting is that you give them a shit load of money for the disc, expect you to pay shitloads for extras and have the DRM as well.

They are trying to get people to buy something, whilst renting a secondary part of it, whilst never owning any of it.

If anyone on this forum buys a shit box, they are planting their vote firmly in this camp of thought. Even if MS back pedaled I don't think they deserve a 2nd chance. I say we take them down now and go with Skykids one horse race setup with a Donkey (being the Wii U) tailing behind. Maybe NCL wanted this all along. Let MS and Sony wound each other to the point where the only one standing is the bystander.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Lol, if this was Nintendo's plan all along i'm wondering where slashing their own throats fits into this.

Sony have at least went over X1's power, under their price tag, and are touting region free/DRM/online check in free.

X1 - it's a simple thing : the physical media is an ondisk install, and XBL is now the "Steam activation key" stage. Once someone installs then you can basically pass it on/sell it once. It's the Steam model, but -most likely- without the insane sales.

My beef is even without the DRM etc - the X1 is -still- $100 more than the Sony equivalent, is less powerful and has the Kinect 2 packaged as standard.

For the moment, whilst both still don't have any killer titles, i'm less inclined to throw Sony under a bus. MS can go suck it

•MS considers the PS4 an "Xbox 360 version 2" in that the PS4 doesn't have many of the social and multi-tasking features the Xbone does. It doesn't seem like MS really believes they are in competition with Sony at this point. He did say that MS considers this point in time to be a "jump ball" in that neither system is backwards compatible and users may easily switch platforms.
i.... i.... what?

X360 did a ton of damage to Sony in the US this past gen - quite how this whole "oh we're all back to square one!" sits so well with them is pretty crazy.

Also , in MS's own words : "PS4 is X360 version 2, X1 is some multitasking social media stuffs and thingamjigs!"

SIGN ME UP FOR PS4 then!

MS understands Don Mattrick of MS is making MS sound even worse and they're trying to essentially get him to stop talking.
This was 5 days ago and Mattrick still hasn't stopped talking? Microsoft really needs a dedicated PR person. Looks like his Wiki page has been hacked too:

Another log for the fire: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.c ... s_xbox_one
"On June 13th, Amazon put a poll up on their Video Games division's Facebook page asking consumers one simple question; Do you prefer the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One.
Three days and over 40,000 votes later, the etailing giant has taken down the poll prematurely, as it was set to run until June 20th.

The PS4 absolutely demolished the Xbox One, with 38,984 votes for the Sony console and just 2162 votes for the Microsoft rival."

38,984 to 2162... Them are some nasty numbers.

Anyways, been enjoying the Xbone and PS4 threads.

We've got three companies here. One of which... one of them is a video game company.

And one of them that very clearly does not want to be a video game company.
PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

I don't agree with everything their doing but to be honest their game line up is better (for me anyhow) and the various issues people have don't really affect me. Ultimately I just want to play games I like, not sit twiddling my thumbs basking in my moral victory. :)
