What's the most you've paid for a game?
Just wondering if I'm insane or stupid, or both.
I just paid $147 for Harmful Park, and $139 for Gaia Seed, because rare, and in the case of Harmful Park, apparently good.
Last week I bought a Gamecube Component Cable for $159, just because I wanted my GC to look it's best.
I'm thinking of trying to track down a good copy of Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun.... which are easily both over $100 online, and even though they are available on Xbox live... I just want the real thing.
Anyhow, I was wondering... what's the most you've ever paid for a game? Shmup or not....

£300 for a Wake Waku 7 cart back when I had a Neo. The only collection I miss, those chunky carts and big snap lock cases were beautiful. Not the best fighting game ever but it struck a chord with me and I had my money's worth.

Around $1300ish

Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
was that for the full kit btw?jonny5 wrote:Around $1300ish
most I've ever paid was $300ish for batsugun (before shipping). worth every cent in my opinion. probably my favourite shmup.

Nope. I have no need for cardboard sitting in my closet.
But that was also about the same as I paid for a Futari 1.5 kit in like 2009

€400 Cannon Dancer
€320 Guwange
Console games:
€220 Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire
€200 Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru
€180 Alien Soldier (<– This dropped about 50% in price in the meantime, d'oh!

I'm surprised you found a bare board. But yeah, I'm not one for collecting full kits either.jonny5 wrote:Nope. I have no need for cardboard sitting in my closet.

I paid around that for Gaia Seed, played it for 3 days, promptly sold it.broken harbour wrote:Just wondering if I'm insane or stupid, or both.

regarding silvergun, i own the saturn version and the arcade version, and i've owned the saturn version for over 10 years now, clocked up maybe 300+ hours on it, and still have no desire to sell it (and actually wanna see if i can break my old score soon
)
at the end of the day a game is only worth what a person is willing to pay for it. but a great game that you'll treasure for years is almost priceless. as long as you're buying stuff for the correct reasons and you're confident you'll get a decent amount of enjoyment/entertainment from it (and also that you can afford it!), i say go for it
however, i think $159 for a cable is a bit ridiculous, i think gamecube through rgb at 60Hz on a good CRT looks amazing anyway. and i'm also surprised about guardian heroes being $100+
the PAL copy sells for about £10 here, and my japanese copy cost me £20 (but again this is about 10 years ago
)

Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
most i've spent was £600 twice but i sold them when i cleared them.
this sounds like noob collecteur syndrome to me. don't be one of them douches
unless i know your history with shmups and games i couldn't advise you on your purchase.
i just find these people who suddenly surface in 2013 and start buying up whole collections of stuff very weird.
but yeah gaia seed sucks unless you like games of euroshmup quality and harmful park while a good game is a bit overated and over expensive.silvergun unless you are skilled and willing to put in hours and hours then it is just a pointless purchase.

Interesting, I got both Alien Soldier and Taromaru last year... and AS was indeed ~€90, but I ended up paying almost exactly that entire amount extra on Taromaru.CIT wrote:Console games:

I guess the most i've ever spent was $140-ish for Hyper Duel.
The 6 bucks i spent on Gaia Seed (PSN) seemed about fair.

NGdev's MVS games. Around 400 euros each. for the rest of my MVS games, I paid almost nothing in comparison
For a console game, around 150-200$ for Hyper Duel on the Saturn.

What exactly makes people Hate on Gaia Seed so much anyways?
Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
It doesn't deserve hate, those people are silly. It's a fun enough game with some lovely graphics, but it's extremely easy, you'll probably 1CC it on your first go. The PS1 original is not worth the price for that alone, the PSN release is much more reasonably priced considering the playtime you get out of it.broken harbour wrote:What exactly makes people Hate on Gaia Seed so much anyways?
As for the topic itself, I've bought all the NG:Dev MVS releases and a CIB Summer Carnival '92: Recca. Those were all costly.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
I paid about £100 for Gaia Seed- got it for my 40th birthday- agree its very easy, but an enjoyable game none the less.
I bought a component cable for my Gamecube ages ago- for about £20 - are they really worth $159 ? - have to say I'd not likely pay that.
I tend to hang about and try to pay as little as I can for a game- got so many, I can afford to play the waiting game.
Managed to snap up Ibara for £50 a year or so back.
Mind you, I gave away a copy of Radiant Silvergun by mistake when I sold a broken Sega Saturn a few years ago on ebay for about £10- ouch!

$159 is by far the cheapest I've found it out there for.NAVVARR wrote: I bought a component cable for my Gamecube ages ago- for about £20 - are they really worth $159 ? - have to say I'd not likely pay that.

I hear you on the Silvergun thing, I gave away my Saturn and Copy of Guardian Heroes 13-ish years ago to a buddy, who then pawned it a few years later.
Never forgave myself for that....
Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
Arcade: I think I paid about $250 for my Dodonpachi board.
Console: Probably $85 for a copy of Battle Garegga for Saturn. Granted, I also sold a copy of Border Down (which I bought new) for $120 at one point.

Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
I'm going to disagree on this one - i like the art style and the fact that it exists, but it's way WAY WAY too easy. To the extent that once you've played through it a few times i didn't feel the need to ever see it again.Harmful Park be great though.
It's still GOOD, but i'm not sure it warrants some of the plaudits it gets. It's at least better than some of the stuff that goes for high prices so it does have that in it's favour too.
Most paid : i stupidly paid $800 or so for an extremely good condition -original with documents- etc Phoenix.... an arcade board i later picked up -three- of , over the internet via Ebay, for $5... a batch of three working Phoenixs for $5 albeit they needed a good clean up vs $800 for a precleaned + docs one in Japan. There's an arbitrage business in there if i could be bothered : Final Fight - $5 vs 24,000 yen, Shinobi $5 vs 18,000 yen etc -

Re: What's the most you've paid for a game?
$49.99.
Never bought a game at more than full price as far as I remember. Even when I got Keio Yugekitai on the Saturn, that only cost me $38.
If I had caved in and gotten a bare disc copy of Radiant Silvergun [back when my Saturn was working, I really should go get another one...], I'd be saying $100. But I didn't, so I'm not.

Playing harmful park on anything but the hardest setting is useless, I really do like the game .
