I was talking about the initial poster quoting from natural news, then I meant that their idea forming as a corporate scheme wouldn't surprise me. The real issue is the human genome becoming commercialized, its already done with some plants and animals, I don't want there to be a future where corporations take people to court over a genome issue, especially the said genome is in the body already.

Which is why such patents are invalid in the European Union.

And now, as of June 13, 2013, they are invalid in the US as well, thanks to a unanimous Supreme Court ruling. However, novel techniques to store or test for the information are still patentable.

I'm surprised to see that the value of the company that held the patents in question has actually risen. I guess they hold the patent for cDNA, but there are more ways right? Is their way better or cheaper somehow?
