Probably due to the 25" monitor in the big red, versus the 19" monitor of your raiden. Nice cabs!

Finally picked up a barebones Psikyo Gunbird 2 PCB. Haven't booted it up yet to see what region it boots up to (which would be either the original Japanese region or the all-English language International region variant) but it does have an eye-catchy & peculiar South Korean seal sticker (placed smack dab in the middle of the PCB itself) on it to denote that it's legit for distribution/play there. Upon closer inspection, it's a geniune Psikyo PCB with the telltale "Made In Japan" moniker silkscreened on the PCB itself. Plus, it's in immaculate condition for it's age...almost new but with the telltale signs of the condition of the onboard Psikyo stickers themselves, the stickers have seen better days.

What's interesting, currently at the local McHenry Bowl in Modesto, CA, there's a Dynamo upright cab with a USA region Gunbird 2 PCB up & running. Has three coin slots, one coin slot will rip you off if you're careless (hint: it's the far leftmost one that'll steal your precious quarters....so avoid that one at all costs) and the other two will properly credit up a game. And get this, each credit is priced at a mere 50 cents. How cool is that?

After having owned the USA region DC version of GB2 since it's debut stateside, there's nothing like owning/playing the real deal that is a Psikyo GB2 PCB indeed. I'm stoked to be a proud new GB2 PCB owner...should've gotten one years ago for my arcade PCB stash but every time one'd appear for sale, it'd be snatched up mighty quick in a flash in this day of age. As the ol' adage: "You snooze, you loose" rings true.

I do recall on the World of Arcades site, that both the Japanese and World versions are included on the GB2 PCB for posterity...so it'd be "easy as pie" to change from one region variant to the other if so desired. It's a given, alrighty.

Congrats on the GB2. I started buying PCBs so I could own games that didn't get console ports, but GB2 was a game I made the exception for and bought the board as well.

Thanks for the kind words, Chempop.

I used to have an USA region Psikyo Gunbird PCB kit with full-sized marquee, all-English arcade paperworks and instruction manual minus the Psikyo factory box (otherwise, it would've been complete). It turns out that it was Jaleco USA arcade subsidairy whom handled the distribution of both Strikers 1945 & Gunbird jamma conversion PCB kits in the USA. There were some stickers placed on a few of the Gunbird PCB eproms with 5/95 rev. -- wasn't sure what changes were made to that particular GB PCB revision though. It did make it's USA arcade debut back in May of 1995 indeed.

The very first time I saw/played GB was back in May of '95 at the Blackbeard's arcade/water amusement park in Fresno, CA of all places. There was a "New Game" marquee placed on top of the cab to indicate that it was new.

Haha, yeah I've been playing it with no autofire. I thought I could get by without it, but I'm starting to reconsider.

You could just get an autofire PCB, such as this one: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45871

Thanks for the kind compliments, alien-mame. I was no stranger to Psikyo's arcade STGs like Strikers 1945/II/III, Sol Divide, & GB 1 & 2 over the years whether they were in the arcades, movie theaters, bowling alleys or even at an indoor racing go-cart track back in the day. Awesome STGs for their time indeed.

Even that famous Game Fan issue with the 2-page tated article spread on the Japanese DC port of GB2 is what prompted Capcom USA to decide to release it stateside. And the rest, is history in the annuals of shmup lore.

CONGRATS VYXX! There is nothing like a first cab, and I always get a kick out of seeing kids play on a candy cab. If you are like many of us, you'll have a second within 12 months.

are those handwritten notes on the roms? could you post a bigger picture?
for me it looks like the one on the page where i first bought it from, before finding a real original one, and that original one looked definetely different.
thats an original one:

It looks just like the conversion I have. Also this game never had suicide in the first place, or even a place for the battery to go.

It's about time I posted some more additions.

R-Type & X-Multiply - not pictured because the boards have been swapped all over the place already. R-Type arrived broken so I got half my money and import duty back. Took an hour to diagnose and repair so I'm happy with that.

Ibara Black Label kit - just happy the search is over. I don't think I'll ever be selling this one given the difficulty in obtaining it.

Image

Empire City 1931 - had been ROM swapped to Street Fight, the German version. I've put it back to how it should be. Cool black PCB masking!

Image

Hyper Sports - very very hungry on the +5 for some reason, might take a look at that this weekend. One of my old favourites, better than Track & Field (there, I said it.)

Image

Super Pinball Action - pretty rare, arrived broken due to a cap in the 68k reset section being broken at the leg. Happy it was an easy fix.

Image

Speedball - more video pinball, sold to me as having faulty inputs - might take a look this weekend.

Image

RECO - everyone's new favourite autofire PCB!

Image

Super-X - fairly average shooter by Mitchell. Volume control is badly bent and works when it feels like it. Starting to think drkitty doesn't have sound on his test rig. Second board in a row with a sound issue (although Earth Jokers was worse).

Image

Arcadia - sorry for the shitty photo, did this without the flash as the ROMs have no labels yet and it's not dumped. Will be dumping this one over the weekend, just the same as Rapid Hero but the name is IMO cooler. Doesn't have the logo animation though in attract.

With the honesty and ability of many sellers, it certainly seems to turn out that way. You can't own this many boards and not learn to fix them.
