This forum? I doubt it.

The majority of people? Could go either way.
Half the forum owning one is maybe a little strong, but I definitely stand by what I said about the majority of people being stupid enough to buy an Xbone.

So, was there any back-pedaling or clarification about the draconian and retrograde baloney lock-ins and big brother-ing on behalf of MS? Or is it still full-stupidity ahead?

Short of using smoke signals, it doesn't look possible to avoid big brother in the US.

Damn, beat me to it.

Now, chalk it up to the vitriol against MS, but it looks more like the X68000 to me.

Yep.
Sony's explicitly calling out the Xbox One's policy of always-connected too, haha.

I just heard it's going to be 399.

Flashback to the time when they announced the PS1 for 299 after Sega had showcased the Saturn for 399.

Well fuck. Jack just sold a console. Looks like I'm pulling for the PS4 exclusively.

That was a fucking great presser.

Can't think of one game that was a "must buy" for me. But DAMN, better specs, no bullshit DRM, and $399? I'd probably buy one just because of no BS DRM just to show support.

Edit: they just need to say "no region lock," and I might just pre-order one.

I think I'm actually a bit hype for next-gen now. Wow. I might attempt to get one near launch.
The $399 announcement sealed it.

A bunch of games, some shit about Vita nobody cared about, some PS3 stuff too. Then they said there would be no restrictions on used games and no online checks, and the crowd started cheering. Then they showed a game by Bungie that looked legitimately awesome, and a trailer for Mad Max, and told everyone it was $100 cheaper.

And the crowd cheered some more. Sony really burned Microsoft, they were handed E3 on a plate.

I don't understand how Microsoft expects to compete in this generation. Did its analysts make critical blunders in competitor analysis? From everything mentioned tonight, everybody ought to support the PS4. Only negative is that free online gaming is no more, but it still doesn't seem like much of a contest now.

Last I heard, PS4 games are required to be playable on Vita so it could be a big deal even though I didn't hear anybody mentioning that tonight.

Lol, poor Vita.

Just ran through the Forbes report. The console is teeny! So much better design wise than the Xbone, even if I'm far from in love with it (bring back white consoles plz.)

But yeah, they did exactly as I hoped and exploited MS's stupidity 100%. That how to use used games video was absolute gold, and it was great to see them cement the PS4's offline, no restriction credentials all over the place.

I hope MS are well and truly destroyed now, because their ideas for the future are evil, frankly.

PS4 for me.

Go look at the other products Microsoft E&D is responsible for. They're incompetent from top to bottom. The Xbox 360 was a one-off success that only happened because of the talent that was there at the time. Incidentally, they are no longer there.

Hopefully this is the end of Microsoft E&D. Competition is good, but Microsoft sure makes me want to reword that phrase. They're a negative influence.

@cstle

I agree. I thought they were a negative influence as soon as they entered the market with the original breeze block. Oh, how I ridiculed that console in the store I used to work at (old-skool CEX Englanders), I even laughed heartily when one staff member gently threw the box to another staff member, who caught it at its sides only for the console to rip through the underside of the box and crash against the stone floor. Joy.

It took a lot of convincing to get a 360 (Rupert H was like, "it's pretty good, honestly") and it certainly turned out to be a surprise. But a fluke? Yeah, I can believe that.

So no more free online for PS4? To be expected I suppose. Wonder what the subscription prices will be, and really hoping they improve server performance etc.

Also, it's weirdly peaceful and organic at the moment, very enjoyable... mods must have banned Friendly, at least from off topic. How long can we expect this chilled out chat to continue until normal news/RSS hourly updates resume, Sony plugging, Twitter comments etc?

And why don't you mods know how to reply to PM's (looking at you number 11.)

The Good: Great price. Overall more consumer friendly than the Xbox One.

The Bad: Online play is no longer free.

The Ugly: Not a word on region status, not a good sign. Not too fond of the PS4's design, but the Xbox One isn't much better.

The Good: Some exclusives that caught my attention.

The Bad: Price of the console is ridiculous. Clearly not very consumer-friendly.

The Ugly: No more MS Points, Microsoft's attitude, the console is loaded with features I don't care about.

It's nice that they're giving Gold subscribers 11 free 360 games, but it doesn't sound like this will be the start of a new trend.
