Anyone else have this issue?
I usually deal only with a few local guys so it's not very problematic to get the items back. Do not really like the idea of selling my stuff to someone from outside our lil safe world. But sometimes the situation dictates... Gunlord english AES anyone?
I need no games without lolis. Nuclear blast wind blowing some skirts off = instant awesomeness.

Dude, there's a HUGE VHS market. Like, almost as bad as the retro game market. Mainly just horror films, though. Check out this shit:

Holy fucking wow. I'd be surprised if this extended to the UK, you can't even give VHS's away to charity shops anymore. They can't sell them and put notices saying they no longer want them donated.
Amazing scenes. I agree, there surely can't be a UK market. I converted mine to DVD and handed them to the village charity shop where I'm sure they're still boxed up in the back because the place was teeming with them priced at 50p.

At one point I saw Revenge of the Sith VHS going on ebay for about £20. That's as much of a market I'm aware of!

Sell, sell, sell! Granted, I'm of a different mindset. I have a stash of games I've been meaning to sell, but haven't out of laziness. It actually bothers me that I still own them, because they add clutter to my room and basically stand as a monument to my laziness.

I did sell the majority of my games about 10 years ago, and miss none of them. That's not to say that I don't have fond memories of those games, or that I don't acknowledge them as being good anymore. Either I had my fill the first time around, or they're good but not quite good enough to invest time in these days.

Like Acid King was saying, "when you have time" is often a synonym for "never". Even if you did suddenly find yourself copious amounts of free time, you could probably come up with something better to do than play games that haven't quite been worth your time in years.

There's not really a market for VHS tapes here either - people just want that particular reason for some reason or other (nostalgia / rarity it would seem).

I completely understand the desire to keep everything, but I think it's healthy to sell some stuff you might not be using. I had an epiphany a little over a year ago when I realized that I was collecting certain games just for the sake of collecting. After going for a complete 32X collection, and realizing that I was trying to hunt down a copy of Night Trap in good condition, it became apparent to me that I was a dumbass.

Now I sell things that I'm not using pretty regularly and I'm more focused on gaming than collecting.

My records, however, someone will have to pry out of my cold dead hands.

Yeah, it's mainly just for rare and oddities in the horror genre. Stuff like Splatterfarm, Killer Refrigerator, and rare copies of well known films are the only ones that fetch high prices. Other than that, the occasional film not on DVD/BD will get kinda pricey, but nothing crazy. There's a reason EverythingIsTerrible collects Jerry Maguire VHS tapes. Go to any flea market or garage sale in the U.S.--you're almost guaranteed to find a handful for pocket change.

Edmond Dantes wrote:So, lately I thought about "thinning out" my collection (of games, mostly, though I have other stuff that needs going).

I have a lot of games that I think are worth something but that I don't believe I'll ever play--largely of the "I was interested as a kid, but these days they're not my thing" variety.

The problem is, I have this fear that if I sell them, I'll want to play them again.

Anyone else have this issue?
I had this issue with my manga and anime collection, but instead of selling them I threw them away. Do I want to go back to read and watch some it? Sure. Oh, well... 8)

This so effing much.

I have a bunch of shit I've been meaning to sell, I just haven't actually done it. I wouldn't even miss it if I sold it, since I haven't touched the damn things in forever.

on the other hand, I see little reason to throw things away, someone is always willing to buy stuff, somewhere :P
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Why the hell would you THROW AWAY manga and anime? That stuff is like gold on the internet!

... and if it turned out you had anything I've been looking for and you just junked it, I might have to kill you via psychic powers.
