Which shmup is this?

Post by danholo »

All I can remember is my friend playing it in a cab where (IIRC) there were many games available. I don't think it was a Neo-Geo. The only memory I have it featured a weapon where its highest power would be an electro-beam type weapon that would home in on enemies. I've looked for it over the years, especially on this site, and can't really find out which one it is.

thanks

Truxton's blue weapon is a homing beam.

Is it side scrolling like R Type? Or top down like Raiden?

The "homing electro-beam" sounds a lot like the purple weapon in Raiden II and DX, but that seems a bit too obvious...

Hello, is the game your talking about the one that had chunky looking ships and the power up was called the Autobeem? I have been trying to find out that games name too.

I remember seeing either Truxton or Truxton 2 available to play on an Ultracade machine several years ago.

Yeah, Bio- Ship Paladin / Space Battle Ship Gommorah has the "Autobeam" weapon and a system to make the ship chunkier.

Dayum... Could be Truxton. I'm also sorry that I forgot to mention that it is a vertical shmup. ...

Anyway, I'll look into it. Thanks a lot.

edit: Might be Truxton 2. Truxton looks too old.

Yeah Truxton 2 was released in one of those 50 games in 1 cabs a few years ago. We had one at a taco shop near UNLV back in 2007 or 2008.

Hmm... I'm not entirely sure if it's Truxton 2. I just gave it a shot, and damn it's hard, though. I'm used to newer shmups where the hitbox is smaller. Anyway, I remember the shmup in question to be terrestrial as opposed to a space setting. I also don't remember a default weapon; the upgrade would exist as a single beam weapon shooting from the center of the ship, instead of a dual weapon on the sides in Truxton 2.

Hmm... Also I don't remember it being this hard!

Batsugun's B-type ship uses electricity and its highest level attack gets giant homing orbs.

The Raiden series has that toothpaste laser.

on a more serious note - do you remember if the game had checkpoints or insta-respawns upon dying :?:

Strongly sounds like the OP is looking for Raiden II

Hi guys... I think this game might be Raiden Fighters or, maybe Raiden 2, as the above states.

My friend told me the game was not in a multi-cab but stand alone.

Can you recall what the button scheme was like?

If it sported a 6-button scheme per player, then it'd easily be American Sammy's USA region Daioh PCB version, danholo.

Sure, it's possible to play the original JPN 2-button scheme of Daioh via a two pin jumper on the USA region Daioh PCB itself if so desired by the arcade operator/owner.
