Hyper duel secret music

I cleared the game today without firing any bullet and letting the bosses self destruct and I noticed the music for stage 6 and 7 was changed
Stage 6 had the music from Thunder Force 3 from that vulcan planet
Stage 7 i didn't recognize the music
Anybody else knew this?

I didn't know about that, despite having read all the Hyper Duel-related posts I could find on here over the years. Great find! Wonder what the Stage 7 tune is, maybe it's from TFIV or Elemental Master? You must be really accomplished at HD. I'm nowhere near good enough to activate this legitimately, but I'll have a go at cheating my way there to see if I can name the tune.

edit: stage 6 just came up, and wow - this is a nice arrangement, bangin' drums. Ironically though, "Black Rain" is the one HD track I'd never want replaced.

edit2: stage 7 playing now, it's Hunger Made Them Desperate (Orn Base BGM) from Thunder Force III, and again it sounds awesome.

What a neat little secret, thanks for posting this here! I dig Tecno Soft's habit of covering their own tunes (see also Devil Crash MD and its inclusion of TFII, TFIII, Herzog Zwei, Elemental Master and Shin Kyuugyokuden songs). You can tell the sound team loved their music as much as the fans.

I wonder if this happens in the Saturn version's arranged mode too? I do know the Factory Noise AG release of Hyper Duel's Saturn arranged soundtrack ("Absolute Area") includes an arrangement of "Venus Fire" from TFIII, which makes particular sense now.

Now that's a weird Easter egg...I'm sure someone over in Japan figured it out at some point, though this is certainly the first I'd heard of it, heh.

Interesting. I noticed these arrangements some years ago while I was emulating the music with M1.

These were the two I found listed as ''omake'' in the playlist:
Venus Fire and Hunger Made Them Desperate.

Really cool that they actually was being used in the game somehow :D

They are not to be found in the Saturn version, though.

I love that big 80s synth drum sound! Been listening to lots of New Order and The Cure lately. Like some of my other favourite shooter composers were wont to.

I swear I was able to rip both of the tracks in question from my Saturn game disc years ago. Then I lost the file and tried again (a few times) and nothing. Kinda weird how they're in the game, yet can't be extracted.

I have a rip of the original arcade game from MAME that has both of these tracks in it. Awesome stuff! 8)

Both are arrangements by Hyakutaro Tsukumo, music composer of Hyper Duel, Blast Wind & Thunder Force V.

Yep. :smile: There's a bit of "Blue Monday" a little earlier in the same song, too. Amusingly this BGM was removed from the overseas versions of the game.

I found out about this by accident a few days ago, and decided to do some testing in order to find out what are the exact conditions to trigger the hidden bgms, since I couldn't find them anywhere else.

For the stage 6 hidden bgm (Venus Fire), the only condition is to avoid completly destroying any of the crates from stage 5, busting them open and shooting the robots latching onto them will still allow you to trigger it.

For the stage 7 hidden bgm (Hunger Made Them Desperate), the condition is to go through stage 6 without shooting at enemies, though the boss can still be fought and killed normally.

Extraordinary necro bump, but it appears that the real requirement for both Omake tracks is the following:

None of the danger boxes in stage 5 can be 100% destroyed (half destroyed and fly away ok) (omake 1 trigger)
Nothing in stage 6 can be destroyed until the boss is hittable (omake 2 trigger)

Trying to do a clear with the special music playing throughout too and it's only a matter of time for me now.

Edit: My stage 4 boss tidbit was wrong so removed. Also noticed a post above mine that appears to have been posted a month ago that wasn't originally there when I posted but is there now. I assume it was moved from a different thread, so good job to them pinpointing the exact details before me.

Thunder Force IV also has some omake tracks. One of them is the theme to the exclusive stage in Thunder Force AC.
