360 mode seems a lot more fun. I don't like the weird lag for kicking in shot+laser though. It's like you get a bit of laser for half a second and then the combined power. I think DFKBL is my favourite DDP game, by a long way.

There's a reason for the half-second delay. When you use laser, stars are automatically pulled to you. The half-second delay allows you to use rapid shot and hold down shot long enough to trigger the laser to vacuum stars WITHOUT triggering the shotlaser and depleting your gauge when you don't want to.

I just found ddps on a site called kfcore (hong kong based) for the lowest price I have seen $49.95

http://www.kfcore.com/dodonpachi-saidai ... jp-ntsc-j/

Can anyone vouch for this site? Seems too good to be true.

Spent some more time with it the other day. 360 mode is way funner than arcade HD. Still trying to get used to the graphics though, there is just too much glowing on the screen.

gotta take a break from it while I move into a new place, hope to give it some time next week.

Even the SH-3 powered SDOJ PCB has plenty of slick glowing effects (got started with the DFK/DFK-BL PCB variants back in 2008 with their stylized visual aestethics/glow EFX). Cave sure knows how to increase the glossy eye-candy factor with their PCB releases indeed.

My first impression of the game is that people have really blown the difficulty talk out of proportions. The arcade mode isn't really any harder than the first loop of Ketsui.

I wonder how long will the top Japanese players compete on this game. They must already be no missing the whole game to reach Inbachi, even at expert, and scoring doesn't look too intricate too me. It's all about timing hypers correctly and not dieing isn't it?

Played a few rounds on 360 mode now that I have a basic grasp on the scoring and I'm really liking it. Seem like a cross between Futari and Espgaluda. It feels really satisfying when you use the double-shot on the bosses and mid bosses right before each hash mark and get a really nice star cascade. Same with the turrets during the 3rd stage mid boss, if you destroy those with the double-shot while the screen is filled with the bullets from the mid boss ship it cancels out all the bullets into stars and you can just rack up your hyper level.

I did. I'm on vacation right now though but I can upload some pictures here on Tuesday/Wednesday if you want.
That would be great, thank you! I haven't seen anything on it yet.
Here are some pics of the "regular" LE. It looks pretty much the same except smaller.

The text on the CD says "Arrange Album" instead

The artbook is smaller, ofc, but it seems like it has the same content as the SLE artbook

The LE CD has the catalog number CVAS-011

That would be right.

I get up to stage 4 on my second go, now I can't even no miss the second boss :?

Looking at it realistically, so far the stages don't look quite as brutal as Ketsui at the rank I'm usually at, but man, the bosses feel tougher.

I actually don't like the delay even the standard arcade version SDOJ has from switching from Shot to Laser. DFK's got immediate Shot -> Laser transition if you're holding the Rapid button and press Shot, I wish they'd kept that. I agree the 360 mode has a lot of delay... I almost wish they'd used a 4th button for the special Shot+Laser rather than Rapid + Shot.

Bullshit.

First go on Ketsui and I nearly killed the st2 boss, second go onwards always died in stage 3.

On SDOJ I have to bomb the L1 boss every single time if I don't want to lose a life. That spinning attack is fucking retarded for a level 1 boss spam at low rank. That one attack has been taking a life from me all night long.

Just got my SLE today, still have to get home and play the games. Thought about listening to some tracks meanwhile, however I was bummed by the saturation and clipping =/

I had to turn down the volume a lot, so I ripped the tracks and verified it:

Same here, I found Ketsui a lot more forgiving in the first two stages. My copy of SDOJ arrived today and I spent an hour on arcade HD mode. So far I've reached stage 3 only once.

This is what I'm talking about. The first two bosses seem nastier than any other level 1 & 2 bosses of any other CAVE shooter IMO. You can't auto pilot these suckers! The stages are not an issue for me (the first 3 and a half anyway) but the bosses are something else.

Then again bosses are my weakness in all shooties I suppose

I'm sure this has been answered, but are there substantial differences between Arcade HD and Ver 1.5? Or is just a small tweaks and balance thing?

The first boss just requires a bit of dodging. I like it, Stage 1 pushover bosses with their slow-mo bullets are very boring. Reminds me of Mushihimesama Futari 1.01 or something.

Also, I do not feel there is more input lag in this game than any other Cave port. Try A-Shot if you want the tightest controls in the game, the other characters are a bit floaty but that is how it is on the PCB (well, that is what it felt like when I tried the PCB out a few times last year, someone who has played it more extensively can comment on this).

I feel a lot better about getting clipped by this attack over half the time now. Since it was the first boss I thought maybe I just sucked and my mustache wasn't curly enough for real Cave games. Knowing that the game doesn't take any shit straight out the gate makes me more motivated to defeated it and less likely to get discouraged.

Hm... I feel like the design maybe suffers from a lack of oomph in the sound effects department. Killing popcorn enemies feels like killing nothing at all. I actually quite like the music, though.

I feel really dumb asking this, but does anybody know how to change the wallpapers? I bought some in the shop, but I see nothing for it in the screen or general screen sections.

ED: Oh, the gallery, duh. I guess it keeps the same wallpaper for every mode, then?

After buying it in the shop go to Gallery mode and change it there. Stupid I know. Because of this you can't use a different wallpaper for each mode.

Kind of a personal problem, but I hate how in Tate mode it limits how much you can adjust the screen vertically to 100. Usually I adjust my screen so that its at the very top of the monitor (almost always zoom 150% vertical +120) and put a character wallpaper at the bottom. Looks really nice that way. But in SDOJ and the Muchi/Pink port you can't move it all the way to the top so it doesn't look as good and the wallpapers are usually partially covered up. Why limit it anyhow?
