We've never been to one but I think it is about time we did. Just once in a lifetime.
25 years ago I saw one on telly and it had a robot that delivered beer to your capsule after one had ordered it from the COLOUR (!) TV system from within the capsule. Was this just the bubble talking?
Our criteria is:
1) Somewhere ultra futuristic and modern (see above).
2) Somewhere clean.
3) Somewhere that doesn't reek of Salaryman.
4) Somewhere that serves alcohol too would be a bonus (see above).
5) Somewhere that isn't rows and rows of Tommy Tank tanks.
6) Somewhere that isn't preferably past Shinjuku (from Meguro) in that direction and past Shinagawa in the other direction on the Yamanote Line.
Basically the 'H.A. Rods' of Space Capsule Hotels.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
Cheers!

There isn't one in Tokyo to my knowledge that meets criteria 3 and 5.
These places are generally pretty rough. Only stay there for the novelty, not if you expect good service and to rest well.

You will be hard-pressed to find a capsule hotel in the traditional sense, period. They are being run out of business by internet cafes which generally come with a computer, chair, and sometimes a pocket pussy.

There are plenty of ok capsule hotels in Tokyo, take a look at Hostel World for a start. I've tried some and I found they were cool though they failed on several of the points mentioned above. I think most remaining capsule hotels are now ancient, dilapidated and rammed with salary mans, though they have a certain charm. My favourite is close to Asakusa station, the bathing facilities are quite high up and give a nice view of the river and golden turd. Also this gives you a nice opportunity to stand cock-out at the full length window while admiring the surroundings with beer in hand, highly recommended.
