S-video 480i to 240p conversion (3do)

Post by airs »

I've read that the 3DO only outputs in 480i mode. I currently have it connected to my PVM monitor via s-video and I'm guessing it would look better if I had something to convert the signal to 240p (preferably component video or rgb output). Is there a device for doing this? Would it be worth it?

Aren't most games on the 3DO native 480i ? This wouldn't look to great if simply converted to 240p by shifting the fields.

If you want to do it nevertheless, you'd need a s-video to component integrator, a component to RGBs converter and an Extron RGB interface for the 480i to 240p conversion.

Alternatively you could do a proper conversion by using an iScan Plus (s-video to VGA, $40-50 on ebay) and then use an Emotia to convert VGA to 240p RGB.

I read that the 3DO renders everything at 320x240 but always forces the output to 480i. Not sure how reliable that information is though...

Thanks for the response and options, I'll look into those.
