I have one question which is probably stupid, but I'd like to ask it.
Once the saturn has read the security ring, it is fine up to the console power down. Would it then be feasible to:
1) Start the saturn with an original game and let it go normally
2) switch off the spindle motor by a classic switch, with a flyback diode.
The game would probably have some errors because it cannot read anymore (maybe pausing the game could help?)
3) open the lid (assuming we tamper the door detection switch), wait until the CD completely stops
4) change the CD
5) enable the motor by closing the switch again
6) press reset
Or is this a bad idea for some reasons? (example, the laser would ruin with a non spinning disk)
(I know there're mod chips, but I did not want to spend 40$ or more+shipping to japan)
Sega saturn swap trick, can we save the motor with a switch?

I don't exactly understand what you're asking ?
Do you ask, if a swap trick works ? Yes, it does.
Do you ask, if you can install a motor switch ? Yes, you can.
Is it worth it ? Hardly, since you have to switch the discs twice (boot with copy, security check on the original disc, reinsert the copy).
There have been "backup cartridges" from HK in the 90s which do about the same thing (giving you more time to swap discs).
Friend of mine was been swapping discs on the fly for a decade without any harm to the drive.
Still, if you need CDRs, get a grip and get a chip.

Where are you from? There are mod chips being sold here in Europe that will let you do that much more safe and easy. If for some reason you still want to do the swap trick better grab a "Magic Card v2" cartridge, or similar, on ebay, because it will tell the console to stop the motor and spinning the disc and safelly change discs, but again, its a waste of money and time. Grab a mod chip, its very easy to install, just one solder point, and if you are in Europe don't forget to do a 50/60hz switch for those NTSC games and pal games that haven't been optimized for 50hz

I'd like to ask if a switch to switch off the motor and wait the disk to stop before swapping can reduce the stress applied to the motor. And if there are bad consequences (apart the hassle of swapping disks) to the hardware.
I live in japan, so shipping is always pretty expensive.
I was wondering If a simple switch could solve the problem of the motor damage, or if it would create new problems instead.
