Sadly, they don't have to outsmart us, they only have to outsmart the Cawadoody-playing legions.

The reason why no-one in their right mind should want to buy an Xbox One is of course the mandatory daily online check, because this means that once Microsoft's servers go down (and they eventually will), all Xbox One games will become unplayable. And that's not even taking into consideration the anti-consumer move of taking away the rights associated with property since the dawn of man (most importantly the right to transfer ownership without any intervention or additional compensation of the original seller).

I still play games from 30 years ago. Do you?

This right there sums up why nobody should buy an xbox one, but I've seen enough idiots on facebook and twitter going on about how its better than the ps4, or they say I'm buying one day one. You buy an xbox one and you are giving away your rights to microsoft and are their bitch. Plain and simple.

Valve have at least promised they'd take down the authentication process if they ever discontinue the service. There's nothing stopping Microsoft from doing this, or just running auth servers forever (unless they go bankrupt, lol), except their publishers have likely already ruled it out.

Shit brick will indeed be an apt moniker if that situation ever comes to pass 8)

Diablo III and SimCity's success are the reason why things like this can happen. People voted with their wallets, so they can reap the whirlwind.

To hell with next-gen. I may be done after the PS3.

Socialism ho!

The only way this could end well is if that system is a total trainwreck on a Jaguar level if not worse. At least we know Japan is off their radar, I'm pretty sure MS gave up on them after the 360's failure.

With a "console" this Xbone-headed, M$ makes Atari and the Jaguar look like geniuses- atleast the Jaguar actually had GAMES, that were somewhat playable....(they may have been shit, but still they had GAMES-with no strings attached)

Ladies and Gentlemen, let's face it.....Microsoft has offically gone and royally Xboned themselves this generation!!

Now, who wants some popcorn?...*Sits back, scours the 'net and waits for the backlash to escalate*

If I were buy a console this generation, I'd grab etheir an Ouya or go find a used Turbografix-16 so I can stop playing them on emul, or possibly both.

Just go with a PC Engine for no-hassle import playing and the cutest console ever.

I might consider getting an Xbone if someone hacks it so I can still play any games I own in a couple decades' time. This goes for any system, of course.

edit: I picked up a copy of Toaplan Shooting Battle recently. Game is going on twenty years old and booted up without a hitch on a vanilla console. How quaint. I would almost say "how nostalgic" but fuck nostalgia up its insipid ass. As soon as I can't guarantee stuff will remain usable, no strings attached, I'm out.

Ehhh. So "install" is like install-install. No disc required to play.

It's like... holy fucking shit. A PC-box.

Much like the Ouya, we already have that product though.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

Someone claims to have hacked 47 million Xbox Live accounts and exposed them as retribution for Xbox One.

UPDATE: Turns out it's a hoax, MS has confirmed they were not hacked.

Considering the download link provided doesn't work, and half the accounts in the pastebin are repeated multiple times. It wasn't very convincing.

That article is fairly interesting though.
So as a general matter, Sony’s PlayStation business is not making money. And yet they’re doing everything hardcore gamers want. PlayStation 3 is a graphical powerhouse. They’re giving online gaming away for free, instead of charging 60 bucks a year like Microsoft does. They pour money into indie developers and generate critically acclaimed arthouse hits like Journey. Microsoft refuses to take risks with its software, releasing endless iterations of Halo and Forza while Sony releases out-of-the-box concepts like Heavy Rain and The Last of Us.
...
If it’s possible to create a superpowered game box, why hasn’t anyone been able to do it successfully for almost a decade? Why did Nintendo quit, why is Sony hemorrhaging cash and why is Microsoft putting all of its effort into pitching Xbox One as a TV-enhancement device? Ben Cousins thinks he’s figured it out: because the console is dead, a sentiment with which I would strongly agree.
Raises some poignant questions. Of course it doesn't change the fact that the entire premise the Xbox One is based on is a completely boring bag of shit, but in the grand scheme of things, Nintendo are the only company left who are purely dedicated to gaming, while Sony and MS have been preparing the entire industry for an incoming death knell - whilst haemorrhaging buckets of cash in the process.

They're all fighting to get to the top, but by the time they do there might not be a summit left to conquer.

You know, if you observe only their video game business, Microsoft is still in the red because of their Xbox 1 (I mean the original Xbox) expenditures.
And that's not taking into consideration 360 R&D and RRoD.

The only real winner of the last decade is Nintendo.

If the only way to have sex was unprotected intercourse with a prostitute with HIV, I would rather not have sex.

(Unless you mean we should just continue to play shmups on our old, HIV-free consoles).

Well, the other HIV-free lady doesn't even want to have sex, so you're fucked either way. Unless you plan to avoid modern sex altogether, the only viable options left are shipping yourself to a country that offers sex sessions for $.25 each, or getting involved in some trafficking.

It's pretty sad that our only options for a next-gen console so far seem to be: bad, less-bad, and Wii U.

Amusingly, I see myself picking up a Wii U before either of the other two, mainly because I'm certain Nintendo will give the Wii U a 3DS-style "panic mode" price drop before the year ends.

Can I request you two stop engaging in analogies about serious infectious diseases that threaten lives and ail people all over the world on a daily basis. It's really distasteful.

Me too. I was resigned to pretty much not care about any of them, but after the PS4 and MS reveals, Wii U has suddenly been boosted in my personal view of desirability. A few in-house killer apps and encompassing price drop, and we could be partying Gamecube style all over again.
