Non shmup arcade games you can 1CC?

Post by dark »

I was just playing Radmobile and thinking to myself how I am never going to be good enough to beat this game with one coin/continue. Which got me thinking of other arcade games I enjoy that I am reasonably good at.

I can 1CC Last Blade 2, Outrun 2, and Garou MOTW. That's about all I can think of right now that I know for sure I can 1CC.

Metal Slug 3, Elevator Action Returns, Contra, Super Contra and Senjou no Okami II. I like running and gunning! I would say the latter four are all fairly easy by coin-op standards, though. I always put EAR's difficulty on max when I play these days, on defaults enemies are way too slow to react.

By the time MS3's first four stages are a snap, the fifth will still be giving you problems due to it being virtually an entire second game with a lengthy intermission shooter section. Combined with the total lack of extends, it can be a pain in the ass to learn. Love it though, it's pure excess from Nazca/SNK.

Alien vs. Predator and The Punisher. I play fighting games but mainly in vs. so I don't pay much attention to 1CCs.

Elevator Action Returns - no miss
Outrun 2 Harder Route
Wangan Midnight
Sega Rally
Senko no Ronde
Gundam Seed Destiny Rengou vs ZAFT 2 Plus (Very Hard)
Virtual-On
Zoids Infinity
Fightans don't count for me. Even in the higher difficulty setting, I've no-missed Arcana Heart 3, Daemon Bride, Guilty Gear AC and Melty Blood AACC a million times.

If you keep practicing and don't give up, I'm sure you can do it. Pretty much every arcade game looks impossible at first, but you slowly improve your skills and soon enough the 1cc comes.

My 1cc list is on my sig, but I don't include fighters. I've beaten a whole bunch of them but they don't compare to other genres.

Metal Slug 4 and 5. I'm not hardcore for a Metal Slug 3 1CC though - I always tend to make a mistake on the last mission. Need to work on my consistency.

Contra and Super Contra, yup, done them before. Super Contra on super insane bullets mode, well, maybe not...at least not yet. Ninja Emaki if that counts (not sure about the much harder Japanese version), being a Commando-alike. Probably Chelnov, too.

CvS1 once in a round table pizza. I wondered if it had been set easy but it seemed normal other times and wasn't serviced often.

And SF WW and CE, but it looks like we aren't counting fighters :|

Soulcalibur 2 Arcade Mode set to "Extremely Hard". If that counts. It isn't overly hard though...

Ha! as I read the thread title the first game that came to mind was Radmobile!
Turbo Outrun was the very first game I learned to 1cc.
then Radmobile. My local arcade had the deluxe sitdown, version and I played religiously. (There are a couple shortcuts in that game which could help you a lot)
Virtua Racing and Daytona USA came next, and somewhere in there I learned to 1cc Hard Drivin' and Race Drivin' as well.

Assault is the only other arcade game I ever learned to 1cc but that is pretty shmupish anyhow.

Virtual-On
Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram (score attack is where it's at though)
These are really easy if you're good at the game like most fighting games. need to tackle VO4 some day, never beat the last boss.

Don't think I actually 1cc'd Senko no Ronde  though rev.x isn't really comparable to the arcade version

Yeah, these are the only ones for me right now too. I can't do VO:OT consistently [mostly because of that midboss that I cannot dodge for the life of me, otherwise I can get to Tangram just fine].
If I don't encounter Jag in VO:OM, I'm probably going to be fine. Unfortunately, I'm a bit rusty and tend to have to fight Jag a bunch now... and I play Viper II, who has atrociously low health.

hell, they're easier than most fighting game clears

That's how I did it, way back in the day. Makes the game fucking boring though, be warned.

Akumajo Dracula
Cannon Dancer
Fighters History Dynamite (best fighting game ever)
Mach Breakers
Monster Maulers
Night Striker
OutZone (could be a shmup though)
Samurai Shodown 3
Soul Edge
Soul Calibur

pretty much most Capcom 2D fighting games (does that even count)

I don't think any fighting games count tbh, or we'd all have looooads.

You 1cc'd Haunted Castle? I'm in awe of the pain you inflicted on yourself.

Back in 1989-1990, it was an 1CC affair with Data East's Heavy Barrel...could get the sixth & final component to assemble the super gun weapon and a few well-aimed shots would bring down the huge mechincal monsteriosity end-boss once & for all. On the average, scoring would be in the 1,400,000+ range.

At the local Galaxy 12 theater, they used to have an Dynamo cab with Soul Calibur 2 up & running. Someone inserted fifty cents but didn't bother to play it. Pressed start & played to the very end with character Ivy as a 1CC (despite having never played it before). This is the only time that I can recall playing a 3D fighting game as a 1CC (and having not played it before makes it even more remarkable).

Back in May of 1994, did a 1CC on a full-sized Atari Games upright cab of Klax with a final score of 6,000,000+. It was an two-two & half hour session with absolutely no breaks whatsoever. Talk about a serious arcade puzzler gaming session that's about four times as long as an average 1CC arcade shmup session these days. The fast tile waves surely will keep you on your toes as it gets crazy fast in the higher waves indeed.

With pinball, scores of 1 billion+ was possible on Demolition Man back in January of 1991. You could easily double your overall scores if you played a serious game with the outer trigger grip controls.

Ooooh, I'd say SNK fighters definitely count!

No, Haunted Castle is the botched Western release where they turned it into an unplayable quarter-muncher (happened to a lot of Konami games). The Japanese version is pretty well balanced and very much 1CC-able.

Only some of them IMO. AOF2, KOF 94 and Samurai Spirits 3 are hard as fuck.

I could 1CC Konami's Racin' Force at the Electric Underground arcade back in 1995-1996. Quite a solid arcade proto GT spec-class racer back in the day (utilizing minute detailing such as flashing turning signal lights & brake lighting effects during the actual races). Trying to pass the 1st place A.I. car was crazy at times, screw up on a techincal road course and it'd pass you on by easily (and at full throttle as well -- making for some serious white knuckle racing just to play "catch-up"). Considering that it's a standard Jamma PCB at best, a full racing package deal with the usual steering wheel, 2-speed shifter & gas 'n' brake pedals setup are necessary/required to enjoy it properly.

Had never heard of Racin' Force before, looks pretty good. Shame it never got ported to anything.

I've 1CCed Gunforce, Cyber-Lip, Ganryu, Neo Drift Out (best time 7:29.17, could/should do better), Over Top (3:55.81, same thing)...been meaning to tackle Daimakaimura for years now.

I think mine is like 7:12. Just get familiar with the short cuts and which ones to avoid. Scary thing, dude who has the world record is at like 6:40 or something ridiculous. I've wacthed videos of his runs, and I honestly have no idea how he is doing that fast. I had to scrape and play a LOT just to get it down to where I'm at now; I can't even begin to imagine shaving like another 30 seconds!!

I keep meaning to give Over Top a go, only ever played it in passing and never put any time into it. Might be time to grab a cart.

7:12 is already pretty damn good but 6:40?? How...? We have time attack boards for both NDO and Over Top over at R-S, you'd rank at the top there.

Ya, it was done by 'The Chief' from Neo-Geo.com....and his time is actually 6:38:48

I've seen a video of that run or one with a similar time, but can't seem to find it right now.

I will check my time on my cab when I get home and post it over at R-S. It is by far one of my favorite games of all time.
