iScan VP30 Help

Post by Lord of Pirates »

I ordered one with the deinterlacing card earlier today and I was wondering if anyone could take the time to help me set it up properly when it arrives? Thanks in advance to anyone that helps out :).

A few quick questions:
I have a basic switch (no power supply, buttons for switching between inputs), can I route through the switch into the VP30 without any issues or will I just need to test it?
I output my 360 via component, will I benefit from processing it with the VP30?
How hot does the unit get after hours of on time?
Should I leave the unit in standby or shut it off and unplug while not in use?

I think you'll find very quick and efficient help here in this thread once your VP arrives.

it's likely to work fine, since the VP30 is not very picky about input levels.

give it a try. The mainly depends on how good your TV upscales from 720p to 1080p.

You should not place anything on top of the VP30. The FPGA in the unit remains ON even with the unit in standby, so remains warm and still draws nearly the same power as when switched off. That's why I would unplug it when not in use.

That was quick, thanks. I'm going to guess poorly on the upscaling (Toshiba 24SL410U).

very likely a cable/bandwith issue. HDMI inputs on other displays can be less sensitive, but when a mediocre cable and a sensitive input come together, this can happen.

Do you have another HDMI cable on hand ?

Another question, is there any benefit to running the audio through the VP30, or should I just run it to my sound system?

I do that as I've always assumed the audio was delayed to match the processed video signal :?

I got it today :D!

My current setup is going to be, PS2, 360, and a DVD player through component, two PS3s running on passthrough, and a DC through... Composite <_<.

Is there any way to auto-detect input AR, I didn't see an option (though I may have missed it)? I'd greatly appreciate any suggested settings for each input and any other advice.

Kind of off-topic, could someone please point me to the best VGA box for DC? I believe this one was mentioned in a thread here but I want to make sure I get a good one.

no, that's technically not possible. A 4:3 DVD and an anamorphic 16:9 DVDs deliver the exact same signals.

Can I do any better than composite out from Genesis and Saturn?

What size screws do I need for attaching the feet?

This will probably sound dumb but, are you talking about RGB SCART or component?

RGB Scart. The VP30 takes RGBs through the component ports along with the white RCA labeled "sync" (RGB+Sync).

How would I go about getting that set up? Thanks for all the help so far.

you either get custom-made RGB cables for those two systems which directly break out into 4x RCA for video and 2x RCA for audio or you get a standard RGB scart cables and an breakout adapter (from female scart to 6x RCA (4x video/2x audio)).

Could you give me links where I could buy them, please? I presume that this isn't what I'm looking for.

strictly custom-made. Check the trading station for possible sources.

What I usually recommend: just get somebody in the neighbourhood with a soldering iron. Buy standard Scart cables for the two systems, but a set of component cables and some audio cables and just cut them to pieces and have them soldered back together the way you need them. That's 20 minutes of work - max.

Soldering is beyond me, I'd screw it up . Any suggestion on how much I should pay to have it done by, or buy one from, someone here?

You can use this cable along with BNC/RCA adapter plugs or inquire about getting the same cable with RCA connectors instead of BNC ones.

Will these do for BNC/RCA?

I forgot to mention that I'm using US consoles, if that matters.

Would this work?

adapters: yes, US consoles: doesn't matter, alternative cable: yes.

But ask nevertheless if you can get the cable with RCAs instead. Better than using adapter plugs.

Any particular reason?
