Dealing with getting robbed

Post by CMoon »

Admittedly, I've lived in a high-crime city and I've been really lucky so far. Tonight my luck ran out, though it could have been worse.

Fuckers pulled out the lock on the passenger side, of my car and stole the stereo (I can deal with this part of it).

Then stole the music equipment I was hauling back from band practice (my blood is starting to boil here)

Then stole the some spindles of CDs I was having assembled (not CD-Rs, the actual CDs to be inserted into jewel cases/shrink wrapped/etc.) (I am starting to believe in capital punishment at this point).

Then stole the grade books for the classes I teach.

Tomorrow I have to go in to teach my students, many of which have previous criminal records, have jacked cars, etc.

Of course, they have no grades now because they were stolen. Of course, I'm not in a band now because all my music equipment was stolen.

All of this because I decided to drop by the pub for an hour. FUCK!

So remember kids, if your going to drink, drink in the safety of your own home where fuckers won't rob your car!!!

(and never leave shit in your car...ever!)

So sorry to hear about this, CMoon.

The last time my car was broken into, all they took was my light meter (!?). I needed that, damn it. And I'm sure that whatever pawn shop that fucker took it to gave him fuck all for it.

Still, I know that loss pales in comparison to yours. Again, my sympathies.

I know this probably won't help, but just think if they had robbed your house...your games collection was probably worth more than your gear, unless you're using vintage Marshalls and a 50's Strat.

At least this way you can start over with brand new shit. Get a car stereo that was better than the one you had and all. I wouldn't worry about the band thing in particular. You could just get a Squier or equivalent cheapo brand guitar and upgrade it with aftermarket parts later.

Sorry to hear about that, hopefully you can get things back to normal before too long.

On a sort-of-related note, I was just informed the other day that my idiot college may have left my social security number (along with those of over 9,000 others) publicly accessible on the internet for the past five months...now I've gotta make sure no one's stolen my identity, on my own time. And of course the school refuses to release the name of the moron responsible for this...makes me even more glad about all the BS charges they're already hitting everyone with.

I've had my truck broken into, and been robbed at gunpoint. I can sympathize.

I hope you're able to replace what you've lost in a timely fashion.

Damn, that really sucks. Some guys tried to steal my car a few years ago and caused over a $1000 damage to the steering column. I've been robbed at gunpoint as well. That crap really sucks.

Yea that sucks man...I've had stuff stolen before, and well, you learn to deal with it. You never really get over it.

As far as my car goes, I don't have anything in there that could slow it down!!!
I don't even have power steering or power brakes...its all show and go baby!

Again, sorry to hear of your loss. People who steal suck, and should have their hands chopped off with a rusty meat cleaver.
Try stealing with limbs you beeyatch's!!!

Liability only? :?

Sorry to hear, CMoon. That really sucks. Stupid ass robbers steal everything. Years ago when my father's car was robbed, they stole his prescription glasses, and country music tapes (yes, tapes). Just imagine if you would've caught them though. Could've cut their hands off, and we'd have sweet justice. Thieves make me violent.

As crap as this is to say, you just can't trust ANYONE anymore.

Don't worry, you'll get back on track. Material posessions are just that, things that can be replaced eventually. At least they didn't decide to wait until you were behind the wheel to strike, and leave a few holes in your head.

stealing is really a strange thing from a psychological aspect, do people get some sick enjoyment from causing others greivance over lost propert?

I'm the supervisor for a few ex cons at work and the stories they tell, its like some people just break into your house and steal your gear for the hell of it.

Joy riding really pisses me off, jacks everyones insurance up. Do people just steal your stuff and admire it from the comfort of their ''treasure room''??

Yeah i can understand material gain such as cash or woman :D , but random stuff thats junk to other people makes no sense.

Sorry to hear about your break in, could be worse, car could have been torched.

I've calmed down a bit from yesterday. Took the day off from work and I'm going to hit some pawn shops--all the electronic equipment is a giveaway. Also might show up on ebay. And of course, those of you who said it are right--while it is a setback, it is only stuff and I can replace virtually all of it (short of my ungraded student's assignments). The one that really irks me are the raw cds since it ensures the guy's album will go out of print months (if not even a year) before it might have otherwise. Blah!

If you are really interested read up on kleptomania and kleptophilia.

Man, that is a total shitter and I'm sorry to hear it.

Do you have serial #s for the gear? I ask because pawn shops are usually required by state law to turn in one hard copy of every pawn ticket they write throughout the day. Pawnbrokers are also not legally allowed to write a loan for an item with a serial # and not include that serial # on the ticket. I know that in the state of Washington that this whole thing is over the fucking top strict. We had to literally hand deliver our daily pawn tickets to the Tukwila Police Dept every night after we closed. If people who thought we had their shit had made a police report that included serial #s the cops would definitely come take the stuff into evidence and try to arrest the person who pawned it. If no arrest could be made, the stuff would be returned to its rightful owner.

I hope that that helps in some way.

I have serial #'s for some but not all of it. You never think about your stuff getting stolen until it happens.

On the bright side of things, I managed to replace a lot of the gear for cheap today--I was extremely lucky that Guitar Center had a used Roland SP808ex for $300. Apparently the bugger was too complicated for its last owner (haha, using complex equipment sometimes has its advantages). I figured I'd be blowing at least $700 to replace the thing--SCORE!

Beyond that, most everything else was...oh hell, it was expensive too, but nothing was really exceeding $100 in value. I also took the earlier suggestion to upgrade a few things and bought some better mics that I'd been wanting.

Still some things I can't replace and the missing cds piss me off to no end, but I feel one hell of a lot better about things right now than I did yesterday.

I'm firmly in the belief that thieves should have an appendages hacked off for each incident without pain killer.

This is odd. I hope you reported the robbery to the police. I also hope they dusted your car for prints. Normal theives only steal items that are both worth something and are easy to sell. They do not steal grade books. I have a strong suspicion that one of your students was involved. Are any of them doing poorly and have a criminal record?

Actually I think the job was very VERY fast (it was in a public place) and they just took anything with a handle.

But yes, I teach inner city. A LOT of my kids have some kind of criminal record.

That sucks CMoon... i've had both my car and my house robbed before. They just took my EXPENSIVE ass cd player from my car - which had my first Follow the Reaper album in it (BASTARDS!!!). When my house was robbed they took my Playstation, games, cd collection, The Ring dvd, and one pair of really cool green pants i had just bought. I was REALLY pissed about my pants.

Last thursday my car got broken into also. It was locked and the security system was on, I had taken the faceplate off my CD player (but put it in the glove box  ) But all you could see was my backpack with all my college stuff in it. The fuckers broke the window stole the CD player and the slot below it and took all my school stuff.

I had to drop one of my courses because of this.
