It's a forest, and that game was awesome if I remember correctly. In two player mode, the two ships can lock together to increase firepower!

And wasn't Space Invaders set in space (and almost defining our genre) simply because they lacked the resources to make anything but black moving backgrounds?
Back in those days space was the poor man's forest and they would've killed for some vegetation and the chance to make Jungle Invaders instead.

That's just shitty forest - an easy mistake to make. But if you want to start your own thread about helicopters in shitty forests, you have my permission.

Admittedly, I saw it in broad daylight on a quite dark setup in yoko and was like "Wow, a shmup with helicopters in space!"

Once they put they hands on multiple colours, though, they did much better job in the space department than Strike Gunner S.T.G. does in whatever department it attempts to cover.
Space in the likes of Bosconian was spot-on and still looks almost like the actual stars looked to me when I was a nipper.

Okay, looks like we can add Strike Force to the list - moon planet looks like it has no atmosphere and has choppers all over.

They could have done like Asteroids Deluxe and used a backdrop or overlay.

I never thought the game was set in space, though, just that the invaders came from there.

I've recently made an iPhone shump that is called Helicopters in Space!

This is a great topic and it's good to know that my App is continuing the proud tradition of having Helicopters in Space!

You can check it out here:

let's bump this old topic for an honorary mention to the one I just emulated

http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/2013/05/1 ... ir-part-2/

the 3rd shot, those are helicopters, with little rotating blades

the game plays like Star Jacker (came out the same year) but is an original Italian product from what I can tell.

There is one shmup I am trying to figure out. I found out about it from when I went to Korea as a kid (circa 1995). You would be a helicopter in space. You would be red if you were player 1 and blue if player 2 (I think that is correct, but it could be reversed).

It is a vertical shmup.

It had an upgradable power-up system where you could upgrade one of a few specific weapons.

It completely took place in space (well, as far as the levels I remember getting passed). I actually saw the game a few years ago still in the same place, but since I can't read that language, I have no clue what the name of the game is.

I have only seen it in Korea. It might be elsewhere, but I do not know about it

S.S. Mission possibly? that's a low budget Korean game, the first level isn't in space but the attract mode does show futuristic landscapes..

could be something else tho, I'm sure there are a lot of Korean games we've not discovered yet ;-)
