London Arcades visit
Hi Everyone,
As fortune would have it I will be in London tomorrow night checking out the arcades, so if you see a 35 year old 20 stone blob walking around in a creased (probably, can't be bothered ironing after work) Dragon's Lair T-Shirt, it's me. If you can overcome the public embarrasment then say hello, it'd be great to meet you!
Cheers

Mister Leeram
I did see a guy in Casino the other night who perhaps could have been you........dunno??.....
This guy put a pound in each of the shooters and left. Last time I saw him was nearly a year ago when he tried Mush after asking me "Is this the new Cave one?"
Was that you?
If so, "Hi!"

Yes that was me!
The first time you saw me was the second visit I made to Casino. I had a few bashes at Mushi but had to go quite soon.
This time I put a quid in each shooter that I fancied. The one you were playing was fantastic, can't remember it's name but it was brilliant. I would have shot loads more into that if I had the time. I had another game of Mushi to see how it compared to the PS2 version I have.
I also tried to play Rygar, I always loved that game, but failed miserably.
I had to leave once again quite quickly, just because I had to get over to Play 2 Win on oxford St.
I find it amazing that you remember me spread over such a long period of time!
As it happens I went to Casino (and Play 2 win) to work out what games were playing because I am coming to London again on Sunday this week, purely to play the arcades, with a couple of my mates. That game you were playing will be getting a fair wodge of my cash without any doubt. I can't wait to give it another go. I wish I could remember its name.
If you're in on Sunday and I see you around I'll say hello this time, now I know who you are!
By the way, you play those games a shit load better than me, I'm not even in the same league.
Have fun

There is indeed a traveling arcade show -- the CAE one...
If you head on down to the California based "California Extreme" classic arcade game & pinball show held every year at the San Jose Convention Center's Parkside Hall area. It's regarded as the world's largest collection of classic/modern arcade games & pinballs show. Your jaw would drop at the sight of some of the rare arcade game prototypes that some gamers bring in just to show 'em off. Of course all the games are set to "Free Play" for you to try out. You just pay a single admission fee and you're in.Bal-Sagoth wrote:All this makes me wish there was some kind of travelling arcade. Just so that the North-West would get a look in...
That'd be ace. It'd have dwarves and jugglers and stuff, and you would play the games whilst straddling a trapeze.
Check out the California Extreme's site at: http://www.caextreme.org

Well "Hi" Leeram,
Yes you saw me failing tremendously on the end of ST5 Ketsui
.
I'll try to pass by on Sunday.
This is not the first time a shmups member has walked in the arcade and failed to ask the question; "Who are you?"
Eh ill6?!?

Both me and my mate Wallsy are going to the 'cades in London this Sunday, I live in Middlesbrough and he lives well and truly slap bang in the heart of the North West, where I hail from (we went to the same school). We're meeting and travelling down (sorry, up) there together. If we can get there then anyone can.
So there's no excuses; all us northern shmuppers should invade London in one great big Dark Mild drinking, Pudding Chips Peas and Gravy eating, flat voweled, Pie-fest.
Cheers

There used to be a carnival that came to town every year with an arcade trailer. I saw it 5 years ago for the last time. Incredible nostalgia trip. Getting to play Rastan, Pac Land and Raiden on the same (incredibly knackered) Electrocoin cabs I'd been playing them on in the late 80's.Bal-Sagoth wrote:All this makes me wish there was some kind of travelling arcade. Used to go over to London quite a bit when my brother lived there to visit all the arcades. Now with Trocadero gone I don't know that it's much worth coming over from Ireland. Think I'll just spare up for Japan and do it properly.

Still, had good times in London. Saw a guy called (I think) Mills who was rinsing the fuck out of Strikers 1945 last time I was there. Absolutely incredible player.
hi everyone, ive just returned from London this weekend, had a blast in Casino this morning, absolutely awesome (coming from a northern lad severely deprive dof shmup arcades) selection of games on show, some of them have dodgy "wavy" edge of screen syndrome but still playable.
Played Mushihimesame - wicked, had beam and shot button seperated which took some gettin used to. managed some good (for me) scores just below 3m mark (original mode.) no chance am i going to come near scores on there by DEL (fellow forum-er i think) whose are MEGA - around 70m????!!!! DEL - if u read this - are these mega scores done by doin ALLs and scoring the extra life bonus points at end??????????
Also played Progear, which i thought was a VERY good hori shmup (screen a bit washed out - couldnt see the blue bullets properly at times - had to look at screen slightly at an angle with your head strained back! hah hah bet i looked like a right one if anyone saw us)
Saw the CAVE game near the door on the sit down cab, is this Ketsui???? Wasnt overly impressed with this thought it was too much like Dodonpachi and the 1p stick was faulty.
Overall i was impressed with Casino. They could do with re-newing some of their cabs (get some egrets pls!! and stools) but the games are still playable.
Next time i plan on hitting some of the other arcades, like Trocadero and Play2win.
peace out x

Casino etc..
DC906270 - Hi, the Mush Normal Mode scores on that cab are indeed gained from life remaining at the ALL 10mil bonuses. Once I 1 lifed Normal Mode, I left it (I know that I have no hope of squeezing near the 68mil WR. The 70 mil score you saw was not on Default. Mills had the settings changed one day - I played without realising this & scored 70 mil. I immediately got the engineer to change Mush back to Default. My default Normal Mode record is 61.9mil, as on the Hi-Sc Thread.
Just thought I'd clear that up

Thanks for the info DEL, (whoa, thought i was severely overlooking the scoring system for a while!) and congrats on being honest about the top score. although your default score is still very impressive.
i have been playing mushi for about 1 month now, and am steadily getting better/progressing - have just about sussed how to 1 life to lvl 4 now, and hope to break the 4M mark soon
BTW, if you dont mind, how long did it take you to 1 life the game on normal/original?? do you play very intensively/over what sorta time period? or do you play it steadily over a longer time scale?

DC906270 - The Original Mode 1CC came very quickly, but the 1LC was strangely elusive for a long time, the last bosses' final attack pattern is harder on Original than on Maniac Mode.
Did I play Original Mode intensely?
Answer = No way, I played 1 or two credits once every 2 weeks. I spent 90% of my playing time on Maniac Mode.
