I've warmed up to Matsuri version recently, but the PS bosses can really screw you over if they don't feel like spitting out their more lucrative patterns.
Nice score. Matsuri ver is probably my favorite but that's partially because I prefer 1 loop games. I'd probably like a 1-Loop 1.01 even more. The 2 loops in 1.01 are difficult to deal with due to the time involved.
I think I'm done with Ikuo in Matsuri, I don't think I can do much better than this, it was pretty much a perfect run for me. Replay is up, for those interested.
I lost my chain in the very worst spot in the whole 2 loop game - the helicopter rush of ST2-4. Otherwise my score would have been closer to NTSC-J's Rafute score.

I really wanted to make that my last marathon 2 loop credit, because like you, it wears me down for the hour+
But that missed 10mil from ST2-4 is gonna nag me.....
In the meantime I might try this Matsuri thing.
Is there a good strat for starting a Harahara credit out? When I got to the loop on 1.01, I was still able to get through 2-1 without much trouble, but trying Harahara, the first stage just destroys me. I'm guessing it's more due to not being fully powered.
The only tricky part for me is getting the medal value up, I still get it to 10K before the midboss, but it takes a bit longer than in the first loop. Use your bombs when needed, don't worry about using both up before the boss. I used one in the section before the midboss, and one after, in my last run. I also died once before the boss (try not to do that). Also try and stay near the top of the screen and kill enemies as they appear, this prevents many of the enemies from shooting at you in the first place. If you want a quick max power up before the midboss, use a bomb on the trains and attack them with the lard attack to get a lot of P medals.
I ended stage 1 with 17 million, but I didn't do any boss milking. I should be able to do at least 20 million with a little practice.
^Yowser! Congrats on that one awo!
I will be playing Rafute some more, trying to put myself in the respectability zone.
Just had a run that would have been 355mil, but a couple of mistakes at the end cost me 15mil and all forms of the Last Boss.
Still a shame that I didn't get the 2-ALL a few days ago, when I arrived at the Last Boss with 340mil, which would have given me a 355mil
Every credit of this game produces different results. You can get skanked at any time.
Judging from the Arcade world records, Momo probably still has the overall edge in scoring in 1.01, but it's slight, and only noticeable at a very high level of play (much higher than what I can do). Realistically, Momo and Ikuo are very close in scoring potential, just choose the one that suits your playing style better.
That's just me messing around with my stoopid new camera. Its just a template.
It would be a good high score table for Gun Frontier though....
Hopefully pestro87 will be able to upload the replay onto Youcube. First loop was upped to 180mil and second 178mil. I didn't optimize the Last Boss though.
It's really cool to see how you keep improving at this... you've been going at it for over a year now, but your score has more than doubled since you started entering them into Restart Syndrome. (from this - not plugging, I just think it's neat to look at how you've progressed)
