Do want.

The article says the Fighters games are 'remastered in high definition' but the trailer just says 'HD soundtrack' - I assume there's no visual upgrade?

I think it's just the music that's in "high definition". Hopefully that means it's streaming from a file like Raiden Fighters Aces instead of using their attempt at emulating the music.

I also hope that this version doesn't contain the issues I had with the iOS port. Considering these guys did the wonky Irem Arcade Hits I wouldn't put it past them, but you'd think that surely they'll be able to get it right, right?

Is this for real? A legal way for people without an jap/US xbox or the pcbs to finally play those games on the big screen? For just 9 bucks????

This can't be good, can it? My guess is, they'll use some form of lousy emulation or so... Hmmm, let's see, I am mildly interested in this.

Looking at the screenshots, they're basing it on the iOS version, which uses non-Japanese region versions (four spare lives by default), partial unlock of ships (no access to test menus etc to fiddle the power-on timer), and an interface that obstructs you from selecting Slave ships in all three RF games, and stage routes in RF1 and 2.

So you can't unlock the Slave ship? That's really stupid. Port ruined. They should at least offer that or the ability to switch between Japan/US region like Aces does.

Wonder what the price is going to be. My local Gamestop is fresh out of Aces and they have it for half the price of anywhere else I've been able to find it.

But yeah, wake me when they rerelease DX. Hell, II already has a PC port!

Given we don't have the 360 ports here in PAL I was over the moon when I read the article on Siliconerea, but I'm not interested if it's just the iphone version, which considering the price was up for £6-£7 is probably the case. :(

I doubt it's a port of the iOS version because that wouldn't make any sense, The price has already been confirmed to be 9.99 USD.

Still, it's most likely a repackaged MAME with these roms.

I asked about a few things on Facebook:
Me wrote:I have a few questions:
- will the music be streamed in some form rather than emulated (it was really bad on my iPhone 4G for the iOS port)
- the website shows the port has the iPhone buttons. Is that just a mock screenshot? If not, will those buttons be able to be removed?
- will there be an arcade-accurate setting? (complete default dipswitches ie. only 3 lives)
They responded promptly (checked next day):
Here are some answers:

- Yes, it will.
- The screenshots had been modified, thanks for the notification.
- It's not schedule for the launch but maybe in an update.
So there could still be some good from this. They did do several patches to the iOS version in all fairness, with enough people spamming them to get arcade-perfect settings in and assuming no other issues we could have a pretty sweet PC/Mac port.

Can we also rename the thread to 'Raiden Legacy for PC and Mac'? I think it's worth pointing out the support for Mac which doesn't have enough shmups.

JET. It's the one I'm most skilled in, the one that arguably adjusts the most depending on user skill (by altering stage progression), and arguably has a more simpler system (trigger X-Medals in stage 1, medal up). I say arguably, it's a personal opinion and one I know is not shared by everyone.

What's the point of this release, when these games are fully playable for free in MAME, and even with better display quality?

Because MAME is a complete nightmare where only the minority of ROMs ever work without having to spend many hours trying to sort out their stupid compatibility issues.

To be fair, the standard arcade-style slave ship selection doesn't work in the 360 port either; instead there's a new way of getting them. So if the arcade method doesn't work, there may still be an alternate way of selecting them.

I think i was a little bit too literal with the repackaged MAME thing but seeing that IseeThings/Haze from mamedev said it was ok for them to use the MAME code as a reference ( http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 99#p827299 ) I don't think that's much of a problem.

Also, Considering DotEmu got the Raiden licenses to make this compilation it's still the only "legal" way to play them on PC.

I will buy this if it ever hits steam, that's for sure.

Aces music > MAME music. But at this point I'm inclined to agree regarding the rest of the points.

Guinea pigs for trying this out, anyone?

Uhh... MAME's music is still wrong, for what it's worth. I think Aces has rips from the PCB/OST.

The main thing that sticks out about RF games on PCB versus MAME is the medal get noise. Delightful "bong" in the original, totally different in MAME.

Yeah, I got the symbols wrong again, D'oh! I meant to say that Aces was better than MAME - so if Raiden Legacy uses some kind of ThunderMAME-style hack to play streamed music from Aces it'd have technically superior music.

That still then leaves potential graphics issues, lack of configuration, etc. I don't have $10 to buy this and find out though and I have a backlog of games to purchase consisting of Zero Cross.
