Rez (JP version) not working-- plz help!

Post by Zweihander »

So i decided to cash in on Play-asia's liquidation of Rez-- only to find that the game won't work, with my SwapMagic setup. I used both Normal and Special boots (since it's a CD), and nothing worked... I used Alcohol 120% to make a copy of the disc, and it'd play fine, right up until the first boss fight-- then it just freezes. Perhaps Rez has some sort of anti-piracy protection other PS2 games don't..? and out of curiousity, Play-asia doesn't sell pirated games, do they...? someone plz help... T_T

I bought a copy from playasia.com a couple months ago and it's working fine. Though I have a JP PSTwo, so I can't comment on how it works with Swap Magic or whatever. I'm pretty sure they don't sell pirated stuff.

I found that several of the Sega Ages 2500 titles did not work with the swap magic discs.

The only sure fire way to run them is is to have a J PS2, which is the main reason I sold my US PS2..

Heh. i was wondering where my thread went... strange it got moved to Off-Topic, since Rez IS a borderline shmup; Hell, if games like Bangaioh (borderliner) and Contra: Hard Corps (extreme borderliner) made it into the shmup listing/ reviews, and if Panzer Dragoon is widely regarded as a borderline shmup, then why the hell is Rez apparently off-topic? :?

Anyway, yeah, i had a flashback (don't you love those?) of my shmup-mentor telling me about the finnicky-ness(word?) of the CD boot discs, and how his mysteriously decides to perform miracles which other modded PS2's can't. Guess i'm eventually gonna get a Jap. PS2... or perhaps a Jap. PS3, in the instance that EspGaluda 2 will be put on PS3. (since Cave games are absolutely guaranteed to never make it stateside!!) :x

Fuck, not only will I be shelling out $$$$$$$$$$'s for a Jp PS3, but possibly a Jp XBOX 360, if the third Radiant Silvergun game will be on it... Then again, Iky made it stateside, and the odds are that Treasure's next RSG will be 3-D (that extra dimension being the only reason Chaos Field makes it stateside and Cave games don't), so there's high hopes for a US release. :D

But now i'm just getting off-topic... on the off-topic board. go figure. :P

I took advantage of the PA liquidation as well. It works fine on my ps2 w/ hdloader, which means swap magic should probably work fine too.

It work fine for on my Asian version PS2 too. I am sorry, I think this piece of information won't help much.

Alright, perhaps my first attempt at copying it was just a bad burn. Burned it again, making a few changes in the progress, and i just beat the new copy. So, it's just a case of SwapMagic (CD version USA build 3.2, to be precise.... blah.) being an emo-kid. So, go write your inner thoughts into your journal, Oh Magic of Swap, for i have pwned you AND your thick black-framed glasses.

heheh... sorry. ^^;; 4:10 AM and i'm feeling random.. perhaps i need sleep. x.x;;

So, in a nutshell, a copy of the actual game works, even though SwapMagic is a whiny bitch about the original version. But SwapMagic is a finnicky little motherfucker, and this is just another case-by-case scenario.

I already have a "copy" of the US version of the game... beat the hell out of it. I see this Jap. version as new terrain to conquer... and perhaps i'm just out of practice but it seems slightly harder than the US version.. about on-par with the original Dreamcast version, actually. o_O but maybe i'm just sucking...

Well, thanks for all your help, people of Shmups. ^^
