Stuff. Obscure stuff.

Sky Smasher - bought this to work out if my existing board has a fault or not. It doesn't. Will be selling it as I don't need two. Try it in MAME, feels almost like a missing link between old and new when you come across one of the mid sized tanks that spew a continuous spread.

Image

Fortress 2 Blue - it's sort of like Worms, with little military vehicles. The AI is dumb as rocks (on level 1 at least).

Image

Donggul Donggul Haerong - very very weird Wonderboy clone with a pure Korean art style. It's a Crystal System motherboard with no case and the cart riser replaced with a ROM board.

Image

The Alphax Z - bought it after trying Mission 660 in MAME which is supposed to be the same game. It isn't. 660 appears to be a revised version of this released in multiple regions, while Alphax Z is Japanese only. Unfortunately unlike 660, this version features heavy inertia.

Image

Spiders - a bit like Galaxian with spider webs that slowly migrate down the screen.

Image

Super Mario Brothers - yeah, what the fuck. It's like someone turned a NES into a PCB. The code is definitely based on the NES version, and the graphics output is kind of muddy and 'active', as if it's being turned back from composite into RGB. Adding weight to this theory is a board containing brightness and colour hue controls.

Image

Hacha Mecha Fighter - something normal :)

Nice catch! Sometimes eBaying still reaps rewards (for the lucky.)

On the topic of eBay scores... I just snagged this identity crisis from the 'bay. If you were in Japan, it was New Bomberman World. In the US it was New Atomic Punk - Global Quest... Unless you looked at the marquee, and then it was Atomic Punk 2. In most of rest of the world it was New Dynablaster. This partial US kit references all of those names:

I love the art that absolutely does NOT match the in-game assets:

That's one of my favorite multiplayer games. Was a bitch to find, not really because it's uncommon- but because of all of the names and I wasn't sure what to look for in the beginning lol

Guardians, also known as Denjin Makai 2. Possibly the greatest beat'em'up ever created by mortal man. :)
Image

Not pictured, I also recently got a PGM with Knights of Valour 2 Nine Dragons, and a Korean Mr.Driller clone 'Mr.Dig'.

Less obscure today. I don't think anything will top the weird NES board from last time.

R-Type II - least photogenic PCB I have ever seen. It's really clean but from most angles looks horrid when photographed.

Image

Saint Dragon - already owned one, bought this as it came with some original art. I have NO idea why someone has turned one of the foot fitting holes into a hexagon shape. Decided to keep this one of the two though because overall it's cleaner.

Image

Mr Goemon - this was very hard to find, weird game a bit like Son-Son.

Image

R-Type came with original manual, art and control panel sticker - plus a cassette tape with unknown contents. St Dragon came with the manual and one of the instruction cards (I suspect there should be two). I also picked up a Phelios capsule figure :)

Congrats Boss ! :D

PS/ What about Saint-Dragon ?

Does it have a suicide battery? I can't tell from the pic.

That massive plastic block to the right of the LED is a suicide 68k.

Yeah, I'm reading about how to replace the FD1094 battery as soon as possible. Could anyone who lives in SoCal help out a brotha?

And then, more boxes appeared....

Macross II - got this in a trade, going to make some original looking labels for the ROMs I think. My NMK collection is nearly complete now!

Image

Black Dragon - so nice to get such a good condition PCB via ebay, it's not even sagging like they usually are. To make things even better it was a Buy-It-Now bargain.

Image

Earth Joker - I don't think I've ever seen it for sale on ebay before, bought from drkitty via ebay, arrived with a blown op-amp.. (fixed now)

Image

Air Attack - weird bootleggy looking thing but it's actually original. Actually half the code is stolen from Thunder Dragon, as is the general hardware.

Ahh, my old favorite Air Attack. Lovely one that...

Jealous of the Black Dragon and the Earth Joker. I believe I have seen Earth Joker before, but rarely. Maybe the shooting aspect leaves a bit to be desired but it has many good points too.

As far as I know you'll have to replace the battery yourself periodically; that's what I do w/ my crack down PCB. decrypted ROMs are only available for System16. My Scramble Spirits PCB (system 24) does not have a suicide 68k; but this is by design and not a hack.

I managed to record the tape and upload it to Youtube - strange, it's just someone playing the game. I wonder if it was to be left playing at a display booth at an arcade expo or something.

That is such a fun game. I need to pick it up again. Do yourself a favor and get an auto-fire circuit if you don't have one already - adds tons to the gameplay quality.

dogg we herd you like fisting so climb into this one while you're playing some Daisenpuu.

No, just a 'huge fist' search. I actually had to delete 'man' from the search keywords, it just brought up a thousand images of RZA in a title role.

Haha, yeah I've been playing it with no autofire. I thought I could get by without it, but I'm starting to reconsider.

4-slot Big Red!
Image

The cab came with Baseball Stars and a 161 cart, but for now I filled it with Shock Troopers, Strikers Plus, Metal Slug, and Nam. Tested out all four slots, everything works so far.

But holy crap that thing is heavy compared to the Raiden cab.
