Re: Digital controllers?
For what it's worth, I suppose a Hori Fighting Stick 2 (which has a dual shock 2 analog emulation mode) might possibly overcome such problems. (Although otherwise this model of stick is rather disappointing, the analog emulation is an interesting feature.)bigbadboaz wrote:Okay, can anyone tell me whether this comp will recognize non-Dual Shock controllers? I was extremely angry to discover Namco 50th (also coded by DE) would not load if it did not detect a DS. How in the hell does a developer decide to lock out joysticks from an arcade compilation??? Anyway, considering this pack has three versions of Street Fighter on it, the same decision would be even more disastrous.

According to what that says, I'm not as far off on fake low res as I thought. I know it's not a "true" arcade display, but I personally don't think it's terrible either. Seriously, the speed and gameplay are intact. Do you honestly think it takes no effort to get the games running at good speed, especially when keeping track of 20 games? Filtering isn't always the best option, but I have seem some games that look absolutely horrible in true low res with no filters at all to make them look less pixelated.Recap wrote:Maybe it has to do with the censorship the subject gets these days on this very board? Seems you still don't get it. "True low res" doesn't mean "non-filtered", much less, "pixel-doubled". "True low res" refers to the non-upscaled graphics being displayed at their original (15 kHz) low resolution. It's not an "arcade" display, either; most of home consoles can do it.BrianC wrote: According to what that says, I'm not as far off on fake low res as I thought. Where did I say it means those things? I didn't say that true low res is limited to the arcades either. Seriously, I meant that fake low res isn't usually the original arcade resloution, not that low res is only for arcade games. BTW, I know true low res doesn't mean non-filtered and I suggest you read posts a bit closer and try not to jump the gun and assume they mean something they don't. Just becuase true low res doesn't mean pixel double doesn't mean that low res doesn't look horrible when blown up. True low res means low res sprites upscaled to high res, right?Recap wrote:Seems you still don't get it. "True low res" doesn't mean "non-filtered", much less, "pixel-doubled". The folks who still don't understand what true low res is, just consider that like Tate, it's an acquired taste for purists. There's really no need for heated arguments between the purists and non-purists on this question every time it arises.
If we ever add an FAQ to the site, certainly "What is true low res display mode?" will be one of the first questions alongside "What is Tate?" and "What is the difference between Thunderforce V PSX and Saturn?"

Or it could be that you've never played half of these 'original' versions in their 'original' environment. You just showed with that line you don't understand what you're speaking about. It's fine if you are happy with ports like these, but don't pretend everybody calls them "perfect" or even "good"; it just speaks about your lack of knowledge on the original versions.
I've played Strider, Street Fighter, Ghosts n Goblines and others on shitty cabs and fucked up monitors that make ANY home display look crystal clear, whether true low-res, fake low-rez, whatever zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........
Let's be honest, it's something that the average gamer isn't going to get worked up about and to drag this up EVERY time we're discussing a port of game 'x' gets real old real quick. Any you know that 99% of this board agrees so no need to get all pissy.
Have you ever thought of chilling out and enjoying the games?

Thanks for the suggestion about "reading posts a bit closer". Now you know what to do.
Where is "the heat" in this conversation? It's not a matter of "purism" or the lack of it, either; it's just a matter of a proper usage of the term "perfect port".There's really no need for heated arguments between the purists and non-purists on this question every time it arises.

So? The resolution issues are the main problem these ports have these days, hence, they're discussed when a port is announced. Let me insist you people need to learn tolerance; it's as easy as skipping the posts where the subject appears and doing your own about why the fucking bastards didn't include 1941 or something.captain ahar wrote: yeah, directly in a thread titled, and i quote, "Capcom Classics Collection PSP - inc 2 extra games," which has no release date yet, unless i am mistaken.

whatever dog. no one understands (meaning recap).
you're talking about "perfect port" in a game that won't be out (or played) for months. period. when it comes out, if the video signal is lacking the arcade standard, bitch to your hearts content.
edit: and i promised myself i was done with involving... myself

It ceased to be interesting some time ago, in terms of the endless debate about what is and isn't low res. There are many other topics where you discuss this at length. It belongs in a FAQ somewhere at this point. Your endless talking down to people from an ivory tower has become -incredibly- tiresome, and belongs nowhere. Learn tolerance.Recap wrote:Still crying? Now what /would/ be interesting, would be for someone to find out from a Japanese game dev who has actually ported a game into an upscaled and filtered mode, to find out why they did it. That would be something of value.

Nah. There are more and more people every day "understanding" it and realizing its importance, as boards like this show indeed. There're will always be some who prefer to remain in limbo, thoe.captain ahar wrote:no one understands (meaning recap).
You fail to see the point, as usual. The very first person who doesn't have anything to get from these "discussions" is myself, since the thing is pretty clear to me, as you could figure. I NEVER EVER did start the topic on this board; I just answer or clarify to those who ask. Whatever. You should think, nevertheless, that, as the board administrator, you're despising all the people who indeed still find it interesting and keep asking about it periodically. There's no need for that since the reasons are pretty obvious. If you had got down from your own "ivory tower" instead of assuming that nobody is saying something "of value" here you'd have found out that that's already answered in an article linked a few posts before. Now what /would/ be interesting, would be for someone to find out from a Japanese game dev who has actually ported a game into an upscaled and filtered mode, to find out why they did it. Thanks. Those lines show very accurately the level of intolerance and hypocrisy of some people here - "I don't understand a word, so close it, it's useless". No, you didn't start the topic. You felt it was necessary to open the discussion by talking down to BrianC. Sure he may have been wrong about something, but there are ways of correcting people without an opening gambit of "you're an idiot, because:". The next bit was whining about censorship, when all we ever asked you to do was stop taking over entire topics with endless replies, even when you're in the wrong or simply sharing a different viewpoint. (Who can forget the hilarity of the Castlevania topic?) I have no problem with people asking a question and getting an answer. I have absolutely no tolerance for people unable to do this without being needlessly rude and condescending.Recap wrote: You fail to see the point, as usual. Yes, and I've seen that article before. It's a good article, but it doesn't address why even games -without- unique resolutions are getting the same treatment.Recap wrote:There's no need for that since the reasons are pretty obvious. The above, was a deliberate misinterpretation of what someone said, as usual. I think the point is, that you have absolutely no fucking clue about how to interact on a public forum without being easily, without a doubt, the most obnoxious individual I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.Recap wrote:Thanks. Those lines show very accurately the level of intolerance and hypocrisy of some people here - "I don't understand a word, so close it, it's useless". Ah, the ignorance.
I'm afraid I'll be sparing the forum another poorly worded reply (your English is not as good as you think it is). Goodbye.

I have gone through several version with 1943. I orginally owned the NES version. I sold it when I got the Capcom Generation Vol.1 for PS1. Then I fould the Capcom Generation is rarely played since it's tate mode could rotate the screen 90 degrees clockwise instead of anti-clockwise for most of the other games.Neon wrote:Seems like overkill to me. a.) buy the PSX or Saturn version;
b.) buy this so you can play it in yoko only and upscaled, with emulation glitches, but oh well, at least it's got extras!
It is cheaper, but fuck that. It's a lazy ass job and I'd rather not play more than 2 or 3 games at a time anyways.
c) buy the JAMMA PCB version for only 5,000 yen (~$43). Tate mode, non-interlance, acrade perfact.
Kai seems to be a bit better on PC Engine than arcade, but still.
I got an acrade monitor for playing game in tate mode, and I won't invert it or swop it's yoke wires every time I play 1943. So it turns out the it only be played in yoko mode, in which the resolution of PS1 is not high enough got some lines of pixtel missing. I sold it when I perform trim down last time.
After gone through all this I said to myself, next time I get a compilnation because of 1943 I will have to get it right, I don't want to have it sold because of some kinds of defact.
I run upon a 1943 JAMMA PCBs selling for 5,000yen a few days ago, since I already got some stuf to buy from the same seller, it would save money in bank changes and combind shippment. So I decided to get it. I would finnal able to play 1943 in tate when it arrive.
Actually there is one huge difference between this version and the PS1 Generation one. According to the lenience aggrement, Capcom allows you to put this version of the game within a coin-opt meachine and make money with it.

The versions of 1943 in Capcom Classics Collection don't have any tate, but the screen size can be changed to a good size. Why did you sell the NES version? It's a bit different from the arcade one, but it's also the only console version of the game with a charge laser. Is it true that some games have a tate that doesn't fill the screen in Capcom Generations?SAM wrote:I have gone through several version with 1943. I orginally owned the NES version. Have seen something about this somewhere in this forum. This should not be a problem, as there is switches on the acrade monitor for adjusting the size of the image.BrianC wrote:Is it true that some games have a tate that doesn't fill the screen in Capcom Generations?

o Avengers - A unique top down, vertically scrolling beat ‘em up has players roving through the gang riddled streets of Paradise City in search of the ring leader who has taken hostages.
o Block Block – An innovative twist to the block breaking genre, Block Block features a two player co-op mode, allowing for the cooperative destruction of blocks. Also unique to this title was the constantly shrinking paddle that forced player to finish each board as quickly as possible.
o Captain Commando – Following in the footsteps of several great side-scrolling brawler titles, this four player co-op game tracks the adventures of four intergalactic space rangers who must enforce peace throughout the galaxy.

o Strider – An inventive action platform game that follows Strider Hiryu who must save the earth from the clutches of the evil Grandmaster Meio and his minions.
o Three Wonders – A compilation of three games in one that covered three different genres: horizontal scrolling platformer (Midnight Wanders), horizontal scrolling shooter (Chariot) and a puzzle game (Don’t Pull).

o Virally transfer high score data to and from others systems while engaging in multiplayer battles.
• Customizable controls - Reassign the PSP system controls to suit any gaming preference or style.
• Selection of screen settings – Change the size ratio including normal, stretch or vertical.

As far as the US goes, Capcom would be throwing money away to release this here. The majority of people getting a PSP in the US have it because it's a "portable PS2" that they can play 3D action games on.
Varth, 3 Wonders, Strider, such great games. I really hope the "Volume 1" on the packaging of the Capcom Classics Collection isn't a joke and we actually get a volume two with these games on it. Hell at the $20 price the first came out at I'd pay that much just for any one of those three games.
