They crop up regularly on eBay in the UK, but normally collection only so it's just a matter of patience.

That was me, and yeah 480p works for RGB and component. I have managed to get RGB 480p to work using a T-connector.
Guys, what is a t-connector in this context?

kamiboy, have you tried this method of sync combining for >480p sources? I.e., something like an xbox 360 at 720p?

Thanks,

While it probably works, the 360 outputs 720p in component anyway, so there's no need for such trickery.

Fudoh, from a cabling perspective the VGA would be preferred (for me) as I have a SCART switch than runs (via SCART-> RGBS BNC cable) into an Extron SW2 RGBHV/audio swith. The SCART switches occupies one of the two inputs on the SW2. I figure I would use the other input for my 360 (or Dreamcast...I'm on the lookout for an Extron SW4 so I can connect the 360 and Dreamcast at the same time) with its RGBHV output (I already have a VGA to BNC cable). An RGBHV cable would be output to the PVM into its input (with a t-connector on the sync).

I had also heard that the component output isn't as "good" as the VGA output...but I have no idea. For me, its more about cabling / switching convenience.

No, anything I own that puts out over 480p has component output and I use that instead.

Guys, pretty cool SCART switch....especially with a simple mod

http://www.keene.co.uk/electronic/keene ... r/KSC.html

Ok, so one of the neat things about it is the fact that it has a VGA out. According to Keene this is to switch hd sources...sources that put H-Sync and V-Sync on SCART pins 10 and 12. If you take a commonly available VGA to BNC cable and plug it into to the switch and a PVM, you get a rolling picture with 15khz sources. Obviously sync is screwy which is no surprise given that composite sync isn't contemplated for the VGA out. So, what I did was mod the switch by soldering a wire going from SCART pin 19 on the output SCART (underside of the PCB) to the H-Sync output of the VGA connector (again, underside of the PCB). Hooked everything up and.....the picture is perfect and switching works perfectly as well.

Anyway, this means you don't need a "special" SCART to BNC cable and can instead get a (much) cheaper VGA to BNC cable.

I can post pics of anyone is interested.

Does the Scart commander incorporate any sync processing (cleaning/stripping) ? Keene's sync blaster cables obviously do, but I couldn't find confirmation on their switch.

Ok, cool. I've got a VGA cable incoming...will try it out and report back to the group.

Good question and I *believe* the answer is no...but not 100% sure. Would be sweet if it did, though.

The way I think about it is that you've got two boxes, the Keene Commander and something like the Extron 203. You can run your 15khz switches through the Commander which subsequently goes to the Extron via a simple VGA - VGA cable for sync processing and then out to your PVM. The Extron can also directly handle other VGA sources like a 360 or Dreamcast for sync combining.

Just got word back from their customer support: no sync processing in the Scart commander.

If you want to do something like Scart commander > RGB 203 you need clean sync to start with, so not all consoles would work on this setup.

Nuts...knew it couldn't possibly be that easy.

The Commander is such that adding a sync circuit would be pretty easy to do, though, if you need one.

How is that different from a simple 3-way scart box?

best case scenario: no difference in quality, but usually you have to buy a bunch of scart switches to find a good one. On the Keene on you get audio breakouts, a remote control and a HD15 connector as a second output, which can be useful in more complicated setups.

Fudoh nailed it...also, the Keene is 4 inputs, not 3 and you can daisy chain multiple Keenes together for even more inputs.

Hi Jim,

I'm very interested to see the pics as I have a similar setup and am wanting to output from the HD15 also (Fudoh's recommendation to me previously also). I have two Commanders and am outputting to an Extron 201 Rxi. I haven't been able to find a fully-wired, quality SCART to HD15 anywhere, so this would be ideal.

I'll have/will be running RAW sync to the Commanders as my PVM 2950Q seems to like that better. Any concerns there with this mod?

Thanks!

Cool! Will post pics tonight. I don't see any issues with the raw sync and this as this mod just routes the sync output (whatever it is) from SCART pin 19 to the HD15 connector.

Here's an idea. Why don't you connect the output of the RGB 203 into one of the SCART Commander's inputs instead of the other way around?

Interesting! I'm thinking through cabling logistics. So, connect the dreamcast and 360 via VGA to the 203. Output from the 203 to the SCART switch via 4-wire BNC to SCART cable. Output from SCART switch to the PVM via VGA to 4-wire BNC cable.

What do you see as the advantage to this setup?

Is there some of that devices, Keene or anything else that i can use to just leave connected all my stuff (scart multi to Extron, to crt monitor/tv) with two outputs, to be used one at a time. I have a tate CRT Tv, and another one horizontaly, so every time i want to use each i have to unplug and plug again the cable. Some time ago i tryed this http://www.hdcabling.co.za/images/Male_ ... assive.JPG but the signal looses color, like the signal becomes weaker.

Thanks Zapf, seems a good choice, and the price itself (160€) don't vary much from a good scart switch with only one output.

If anyone knows more options let me know

Sorry for the delay. Here are two pics, 1 of the PCB's topside and 1 of the PCB's underside where you can see where the wire was added. Hopefully this is helpful.

Guys, who's using an Extron 203rxi (I know at least Fudoh is) with 15khz sources. I plugged the VGA output from my SCART selector into the Extron and it says, "No Sync" on the display (which has green graphics that constantly roll).

The output from the SCART selector works as verified with a VGA to BNC cable to my PVM.

Not sure what the problem is? All the dipswitches are in the down position and the Extron works with my 360 (with its H and V syncs).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

I have an Extron 201 (basically the same) and have a similar issue. When you mentioned the mod for the SCART Commander, I thought that was exactly what you were trying to address. By the way, I dont think your pics made it in the post. (***I see them now, was at work and they were likely blocked)

I ran an HD-15 from the Commander to the Extron and got a "no signal" msg, not no sync. Can you confirm that you are getting "no sync" and not "no signal"? Is the mod to the switch enabling that output? If you would post the pics again, I will also try the mod and let you know how it goes. Ideally, I need to come out of the HD15 also.

Thanks,
Anthony

Not yet, but will today and let you know. This is what Keene wrote back to me regarding my question about the VGA output:

"For the VGA connector, you can only use this if you are inputting RGB with H and V sync. The KSC wont do any conversion so the input must match the output. It would usually be used with a plasma or projector if you have an RGB H&V sync source."

We're not running H&V sync, right? Is that what the mod accomplished, combining the two to one pin? If we have a conversation on this going with them, it would be great if we could communicate to them through you. They sent me a couple of bad switches, replaced them, and I'm hoping they don't want or forget about the other ones as I could fix and use them. : ) I'd rather keep silent unless they reach out to me. I'm going to try the mod and test with both my RAW sync and composite vid as sync cables. Will let you know later on today.

Hi guys!

I just registered, but have been lurking for months now; I just got my PVM (a PVM1454QM, 600 TV Lines from 1995-97) and I'm quite in love with these little machines; that said, I've plugged it on, saw that scanline porn, but have no cables.

I was thinking of building my own cables but I'm kinda initiate, so when I see this diagram I have some doubts; so you guessed it, I have some questions!

First of all, if I make a cable, I understand BNC cables have outer shielding/contact that is meant to be used as a ground/GND, this is puzzling for me because I was planning on using a female RGB to male RGB extention and just cut the upper part of the RGB cable) which lack that kind of setup, is it fine? (and is there any tutorial of some sort?) also if I fail at making a cable that works what am I recommended to buy, what's the cheapest solution (I'm kinda on a budget :x).

Thanks guys!
