Fairly sure you can change the ship speed with A+B or Select or something.

Recca has been rated for 3DS by the OFLC (Australian ratings board). It's leaving Japan!

News article on Recca for Australia: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/0 ... 3ds_eshops

Includes a link to the Classification Board's website which for some reason has it listed as '(DVD)' on the side.

I'm totally stoked for this: finally a decent shmup on my handheld. :D

Interesting. Is this the first 3ds VC game to be given a release outside of the original region? Perhaps Nintendo are going to start doing what they did on the wii with "import" VC games (like sin and punishment).

Super Mario Lost Levels (Super Mario Bros. 2 J, even retains the original title screen) and Dig Dug are on the US 3DS VC and don't cost extra.

Ah ok, never realised Dig Dug wasn't released outside of Japan as I used to play that a lot as a kid (owned a famiclone).

I still find it odd that Dig Dug II got a US release and Dig Dug didn't.

I'm disappointed. The thread title is so misleading. I want my 3D classics Recca.

For the people who has played it on 3DS, are the graphics widened and deformed?? I mean since the3DS screen ratio is far from being a 1:1 match I wonder how they solved it.
Anyway cant wait to taste a bit of it on the go.

The NES games don't look widened or deformed.

Are there black borders then? You can't have it both ways, something's got to give.

I guess it's time for me to show what it looks like.

If you zoom in the original images with MS Paint or other non-filtering software, you can see the screen resolution of how Famicom/NES games are displayed on the 3DS (down to the pixels).

Only on the sides, not on top and bottom. I was taking about NES games in general on 3DS. I haven't tried recca, though VixyNyan's pics show what it looks like.

Awesome news! But man, I wish I could play this on the WiiU console instead of the 3DS.

Better than nothing though :D

Very unexpected, cool news. Recca will be an instant purchase on my 3DS. Between this and Earthbound, NOA has been impressing me lately.

No news about Australia getting the release? I'm inclined to think I'm gonna miss out again. :(

Thanks for the old news, believe it or not I did notice that the first time around and I'm pretty sure I even replied to it.

Got classification, no news on when it's coming out, no mention of it in Australia's Nintendo Direct. Getting classified hasn't guaranteed release here from what I've seen in past with more popular games, and I'm concerned there's no attempt by Nin of Oz to stir up interest when even NOA's over it.

Perhaps I'm just too suspicious after the RFA fiasco though. I'll gladly chillax and actually do something with my 3DS if/when this comes to Oz, rest assured.

Oh, my mistake. But yeah I'm still pretty cautious too. There's been eshop releases in the past that we've completely missed out on such as the second shantae game (it never got rated though).

Aha!

http://www.nintendo.com.au/news/nintend ... a-on-wii-u

I used the search bar again today since it was non-functional when I tried before typing in "Recca", and hit this statement on the link:
Additional News: (not announced at last night’s Nintendo Direct presentation)

Summer Carnival ’92: RECCA: This notoriously hard-to-find Famicom game was originally designed for a games festival in Japan in the summer of 1992. It’s remembered as being one of the most challenging shooters ever created. Nintendo can confirm it’s coming to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS on 16th August.
So August 16th it hits. BOOYEAH!

All right! Even if I already played it a lot at NES emulator on my PC I will gladly buy for 3DS too (when I'll finally buy a 3DS since I'm unemployed) to play it portably (NES emulation and emulators generally on DS suck).

Dunno about gamers who first played Super Metroid on Wii U Virtual Console and can't crawl but among retro gamers it's one of the most famous NES and PC Engine shmups.

I'm not sure how much I actually like Recca, but I'm definitely excited to give it a fair shake when/if it releases in NA.
