Coin Error (spoof coin meters on Sega Jamma converter)?
Hi there!
I've got a coin error on KOF XIII when I play on my Egret 3 or Blast City cab (JVS controls on Jamma with Sega V2 converter) but not on my Net City cab...
As I understand, there's something with the mechanical/electronic coin meter... I heard that there's something to do with a 100ohm resistor but where do I need to plug it?
Thanks for your help!

The sega io version 1 requires a coin counter connect for coin insert to work. You can fake it by installing a wire to a 5V source through a 100K ohm resistor to on coin counter pin on the JAMMA harness.

Mine is a Sega V2 but I assume it's the same...
So basically, I need to link 5V from the Jamma with a 100 ohm resistor to which pin of the Jamma Harness?
Is it dangerous for the converter to input some voltage in it?
Thanks for your help!

!?!? Did you not read my reply above?
1) you got the wrong resistor value (you will burn your io with 100 ohm)
2) I told you what pin. Google for pic of your io for PIN number of coin counter. Use voltmeter to find 5v on io.

I linked +5V to the 8 & J pins on the Jamma connector (with an adaptor) with 100 ohm resistor between and it now works like a charm...
Why a 100 KOhm? I always seen 100 Ohm only on diagrams and in my Net City cab, there's 100 Ohm resistors too on the IO Board...

I believe it's used as a pull-up resistor, which is typically used for active low signals when the signal is set to high at idle state.Violent Ken wrote:Why a 100 KOhm? I always seen 100 Ohm only on diagrams and in my Net City cab, there's 100 Ohm resistors too on the IO Board...

I've been meaning to research this as well. I have a Sega V1 IO, and am using it in a cab which has a coin counter (attached to the jamma loom) yet I still get this same coin error on certain Naomi and TypeX2 games. Is there something wrong with how the coin counter is setup? Is there a special connector on the IO that needs to have the counter attached? Or do I have to "spoof" it per the instructions above?

I think the best way is to make an adaptator like I did to spoof the coin meters...
The only Type X game with the coin errors are KOF 98UM and KOF XIII...
For the Naomi it's the same with Shikigami no Shiro II and Tetris Kiwamemichi!
It's now working great on my Egret 3 and Blast City as well as my Net City! ^^

Ok I will give it a try. Did you need to spoof both coin meter pins?
And according to this seganoami forum post by AndyGeezer, its 100 ohm value resistor (not 100K ohm).

Yed I spoofed the 2 meters to avoid problems in some games!

I get this very same problem using a version 2 Sega I/O setup with an Egret II cab running a Taito Type X setup to play/boot up KoF 98UM with said noted coin error display.
Thanks for the handy solution to that pesky problem to be able to play King Of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match without a hitch now. None of the other Type X games have that coin error message though.
