I'm certainly no expert on this. I'm just thinking of it from the perspective of
there would be gillions of passwords
Something like 10 spots for 36 characters, which comes out to a number of possibilities that my calculator won't display in full. I've been trying to think of how much data is currently tracking; it's actually more than just your last save point because of powerups, boss kills and crystals collected. Plenty of room in that password, but I'll admit that it would probably be prohibitively complicated to try to jam everything in there without increasing the length. I think it's still unfortunate that the game discards the metrics it generates - it might as well not track my time at all. I don't know why they went with passwords (assuming for cost reasons), but it would have been a nice improvement.

Ye, would've been +$10.

And ye, globing everything together into a base 36 number could store more than enough numbers. It'd cease being a password at that point (and be more like how I used to save game data in the TI-82 games I made) is just my point.

... eh who am I kidding. There's enough excess space there to make 90% of random guesses dead if you truncate the timer and death count enough..

Beat BK1, on to BK2... just beat the ghost boss and got the x-sludge. For the Ivan fight I had to switch to my CRT... just too much precision required for my (apparently slightly laggy) xrgb3+LCD setup. Really enjoying the game, and I'll be sad when its all over.
