Where is the Ibara love?
I know I can't be the only person wanting a 360 port of this game. I remember people were upset about the shoddy PS2 port, but before then, it didn't seem like Ibara was a popular game. You think Cave will re-up and give this game another shot on the 360? Has it even been emulated yet?

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I don't like the PS2 version but I'd buy a 360 Ibara + Kuro port, as would a large chunk of the forum. I love Yagawa games and I'm willing to believe the PS2 port just sucks.
I would imagine Cave doesn't want to release anything on 360 anymore, since retailers in Japan seem to be death knelling the crap out of it.

I don't love Ibara because it's too fucking hard.

I have the PS2 port, and while I get plenty of enjoyment from the game, its bittersweet knowing its not arcade perfect. I'm tempted to get the PCB, but I don't want to for only one game.
When Guwange (a game already emulated for years) won the XBLA poll over Ibara, I was like, "yuuuu fuckin iiidddiiiots!!" How can Ibara be so unloved?

You have to accept and understand the rank/suicide/avoiding items systems (for the original), and that's a huge hump to get over. I'm not surprised it turned people off. After I got over it I started to love it.

couldn't you say that about any Yagawa game, though?Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:You have to accept and understand the rank/suicide/avoiding items systems (for the original), and that's a huge hump to get over. I'm not surprised it turned people off. After I got over it I started to love it.
Is it just that much more pronounced in Ibara?

I understand, but considering how much love Battle Garegga gets here, this can't be that much of a turn-off?Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:You have to accept and understand the rank/suicide/avoiding items systems (for the original), and that's a huge hump to get over. Re: Where is the Ibara love?
Well, we did get Pink Sweets, so that's good. The rank system is still largely present, but far more manageable.
Plus, ZOMG CANDY COLOURED TOY LAND.
And yes, it is emulated (Ibara). Kuro too! but it's TCFC so we don't talk about it kplsthx

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
Special World, well I've not mastered every Yagawa game so, I'm not sure but if you include for example DFK BL, there's not an insane suicide system there. If you look at MM Pork, there's not much of one there and it can be cleared in 1 man. I didn't have to suicide to clear it, and people seem to do it just to exploit the scoring, not for rank. As for Pink Sweets, I have major issues with that game, and it didn't seem to be a hit anyway. So, not really. And he was the lead programmer for Akai Katana, which doesn't have a suicide system.
Never_Scurred, I know, that part doesn't make sense, the similarities with Garegga and how that is so loved.
KAI, it starts with Kuro. If you read the rank info and can accept suicides, it's a matter of time before you start liking the original.
shmuppyLove, I don't know if you're referring to the port or arrange or what but the Pink Sweets pcb rank is in no way as manageable as Ibara. I posted the main secrets near the end of the Ibara thread in strat, if you follow that it is 100X easier to clear than Pink Sweets (pcbs).

For real, the Pink Sweets port was the reason why I even bothered to buy an asian 360 and games. That showed me Cave was fuckin committed to puttin' these ports out.shmuppyLove wrote:Well, we did get Pink Sweets, so that's good. The rank system is still largely present, but far more manageable.

Anyways, how good are the emulations, performance-wise?

Well, I meant YAGAWA YAGAWA, not stuff like Akai Katana and DFK Black. I love Pink Sweets 360 and Pink Sweets Arrange, though :O Even Muchi Pork is too hard for me, so I mostly just do what I can. I prefer the brutality to having to play a really easy stage 1 all the time, tbh :\

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I also love Ibara. I'm terrible at it (although that may be the result more of my having to emulate the ps2 version than anything else), but I really enjoy it when I get the chance to play it.
Pink Sweets is great fun too.

Ibara Kuro and PS2 Arrange are just so much more fun than vanilla for some reason.

I haven't played ibara a whole lot but I much prefer kuro.
Pink sweets is better then them both.

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I love Ibara (own the PCB) but I really need to learn to play it properly. Playing it like a standard shmup gets me through Stage 4 on a good day

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I have it on PS2 but the lack of slowdown makes it incredibly difficult, and consequently not much fun to play. The aesthetic didn't initially appeal to me much either, but I've warmed up to it the last few times I've played. Its a pcb I'd like to own someday.

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
PPL don't get Ibara because they're either playing the PS2 version (which blows), or because the PCB opens so much whupass it's difficult to know what the hell is going on.
It's extreme Yagawa hard. I don't know if he thought, when he joined Cave, that it was a company producing relatively difficult games and he needed to try to keep up, but it's way beyond the likes of Ketsui etc. People are always complaining about the difficulty of Garegga and how hard it is to adjust to the rank/suicide/scoring system - but like I said before, Garegga is Yagawa with training wheels compared to the stuff he developed with Cave.
I think Ibara needs an entirely new mindset, even from Garegga, despite having similar formulae. You have to bomb constantly and score constantly and suicide almost constantly - in-fact there's probably more bombing than shooting, if you discount the bosses.
It's quite a masterpiece though. 2nd hardest Cave game after Pink Sweets def.

You're overrating its difficulty hugely.Skykid wrote:2nd hardest Cave game after Pink Sweets def.
All of the 2-loop games are harder (including Yagawa's own MMP), not to mention Mushi/Futari Ultra modes of course.
Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I'm not comparing its difficulty to 2 loop games... that wouldn't be right, since it's one loop only. Bar PS I've not played any tougher 1LC from Cave than Ibara.
I wouldn't think I was hugely overrating its difficulty at all, but feel free to throw some examples out there (1st loop of course.)

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I think it's perfectly fine to compare looping games to non-looping games. The first loop is only half of the game after all.
DFK BL Strong is another harder non-looping game.

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I thought there was a code to add a second loop to Ibara?
It's massively harder than any other Cave first loop I've played (no, I haven't played Pink Sweets). It's the only Cave game I've played that I can't see stage 3 of.

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
Best STG of all time.
The difficulty comes in because it plays differently every time, and all the DDP-game-chainers can't handle this.
Every successful run is a hard fought achievement, not an exercise in muscle and mental memory.

I feel it's an argument clutching at straws. I don't consider 2 loops to negate a 1LC as only half the game: to me it's the same as playing a game on defaults or cranking up to a harder mode. That especially applies to DFK BL strong because it IS a harder mode. Totally stand by Ibara being one of the hardest basic 1LC's, I certainly don't think I hugely overplayed that. I've never made it to the last stage on that game.
Pink Sweets is insanely hard. Nigh on unfinishable when you reach the latter half.Obscura wrote: It's massively harder than any other Cave first loop I've played (no, I haven't played Pink Sweets). It's the only Cave game I've played that I can't see stage 3 of.

Re: Where is the Ibara love?
I had the PS2 version and sold it. The load times were wrecking my bulb. The arrange mode is wonderful though. So what I did was buy the PCB and then download an ISO of the PS2 one and patched it with the little fix some bloke made a while ago. I keep the ISO for arrange as I'll never own Kuro.
Big Ibara fan though here! Love that game even though many folks don't it would seem.
