$100 to buy J360 shmups

Post by zendor118 »

Here is the list of games remaining on my list:

Radirgy Noa Massive
DDP DOJ BL EXTRA
Otomedius G
Death Smiles IIX
Shooting Love 200X
Mushihimesama
Caladrius (preorder)
DDP SDOJ (preorder)

What is the order in which I should buy these games? With my budget of course, I wont be able to buy all of them, but just trying to get a sense from the community which ones should be purchased, both from a player and a collector's point of view. Please keep in mind that there are CE/LE's for some of these as well, and I do like to keep game extras on display when appropriate.

Thanks for all your opinions~!!

For things that are out right now, I'd say DOJ BLEX should be your first buy. Deathsmiles IIX is a lot better than people give it credit for, and Mushihimesama is a good shooter with weird scoring, though you'll definitely want to scoop it up while pre-order DLCs are possibly around. So I'd make that actually my first or second priority, since the preorder DLC for that one is a BIG DEAL.

Didn't like Radirgy for Wii, and I hear Otomedius is bad.

I have to agree about the DLC for Mushihimesama. Not getting it would be a loss, 1.5 is pretty good fun.

Most of those show up on Amazon (North America) around the $50 range quite often. Mushihimesama HD is a bit more, especially if you want to ensure the seller has an unused DLC (sealed ones with DLC have a red sticker?). If money is an issue, you can always wait and see if Caladrius and SaiDaiOuJou drop a bit in price in the next year or so.

Buy DOJ if you're not interested in playing it on MAME. Otherwise, you won't miss much by skipping the 360 port. The leaderboards are fairly barren in comparison to Cave's other games (there's one 3 billion replay, a few 2-2.5 billion replays, and several more 1-1.5 billion replays to download), the training options are very limited, and the arrange mode is absolutely terrible. The games play perfectly fine though and the arrange soundtrack is pretty cool.

DS2X is a great game. The graphics might be awful, but the scoring system in arcade mode is very fast-paced, making it a lot of fun to play around with. The console mode has more content, nicer graphics, and a different scoring system; I don't think it's as good as the original game, but it's still fun on its own.

Saidaioujou will be amazing. Otomedius is fun for a few hours if you like the aesthetics, but that's about it. The game isn't good.

Thanks for the replies so far guys!! I did spot DOJ BLEX on us amazon for $50 so I picked that up. With regards to the other remaining games, I did limit myself to $100 US, but that is not really for any other reason than wanting to space out the purchase for a month or two. I'll most certainly be picking up almost all of these games by june or july. The wife's almost certain to raise one eyebrow at an influx of games coming in all at once.

My computer graphics card is nothing to write home about and have a fairly old processor in my computer. I am not sure I would want to play on my machine unless I knew it would be able to run at full speed. Also, I have a large LCD dedicated to shmup gaming suited for both hori and vertishmups, I feel that I really should take advantage of that! Also, I have most of my shmups on 360 anyway, so to keep the library together would be nice. See you're a local guy too, nice too see those from the mass area represent!
