SEGA CD w/ Genesis Model 1 loses c-sync

Post by evan070642 »

Hey guys

I got an xrgb-mini the other day, converted the adaptor to Euro SCART, and hooked everything up (Keene SCART commander -> xrgb-mini - Panasonic Plasma). SNES 1CHIP with a PAL RGB cable works beautifully so I can rule out problems in that part of the signal chain. I modded a Megadrive RGB cable from Robb Webb to use c-sync (220u on the c-sync line, 75ohm on the RGB lines, 180ohm "other" bridge resistor). OK, now we have a Genesis picture. Works great with cartridges.

However! When attached SEGA CD model 2 is running, the XRGB loses sync. Tearing, black outs, and intermittent sound.

I have gathered that my options are:
- Add a LM1881 to the cable
- Rewire c-sync to sync output on CXA1145 instead of sync input
- Add a voltage regulator to the VDP or CXA (can't find the reference to this hack anymore)
- Try different power adaptors (but I am already using 2A switching adaptors)

Anyone encountered this problem?

despite increasing the sync level setting on the Mini ?

if yes, I'd likely add a LM1881.

Decreasing the sync level from 9 to 7 seems to do the trick. Still works fine with the SNES. What does this setting actually do?
