What are the least static shmups?

Post by Squire Grooktook »

I'm not talking about procedural generated shmups or anything like that, but I'm curious what the list would be for shmups that are more slanted toward RNG in bullet patterns and enemy attacks overall.

Like for example, if the main cause of death throughout most of the games stages are popcorn enemies that fire bullets on a random period, in one of several directions, that I would count as not a very static shmup.

The first thing that comes to mind is Zanac. Unless that's not what you are talking about.

I'm sure that works. I'm just wondering about what games use rng the most in their bullet patterns and enemy behavior.

I will always praise EoSD when it comes to this. RNG based patterns that keeps me coming back for more and more beatings. Sylphae Horn, Meister, Gensokyo, Killing Doll, Sakuya's nons, Extreme Color Typhoon, Forest Blaze, Lava Cromlech... It's all bliss to me. Books may be a bit much, but I bet high level players get a kick out of them.

Battle Garegga isn't RNG per se, but its Rank (tm) is close enough.

Doesn't Raiden have randomization in its popcorn enemy placement?

Ketsui's second loop and UFO are very non-static. GB2 second loop too, since suicide bullets are a considerable factor and are very very random.

Answering with a Kenta Cho game is a copout but the first thing that came to mind was Parsec47 :V
