PVM / BVM Hours

Post by a][ »

Hi everyone! First post here and have enjoyed reading all the information that is available. :D

I hope to have my old systems setup in the best output possible and slowly have made this transition. This has led to various purchases of PVMs / BVMs and has led me to the question regarding hours.

What is considered low hours? Also is there a way to display hours for a PVM? ( i have not found an option ) . For the BVM series it is as simple as going to the status menu to display hours and for the A series the hours are broken out between operational hours and crt hours. Is 40,000+ operational hours 20,000 crt hours considered decent? I ask because in a few days I will be looking at many 20" F and Gs BVMs along with some from the D and A series. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

20,000 hours of operation hours is decent if you can get it at a good price, 30,000 hours and above not really worth it unless you can get it for really cheap.

I don't agree with this. BVMs are of incredible build quality, and operational hours alone don't really mean much. Obviously the lower the better, but there are guys on here rocking units with 100,000+ hours that are still working flawlessly.

Well I would not shell out big bucks for a BVM who had 60,000-100,000+ hours of use.

Thanks for the info and the price for these will be $250-300 per 20" BVM I believe. Now I need to decide which monitor(s) I am interested in. The range covers the older G and F monitors(non D or A series), some D series and some A. They are all 20" with varying hours / with-without control units / varying input boards etc. Tomorrow I will be taking another look at them and believe there are a few in the 15,000 - 25,000 hour range (D20F1U - A20F1U). The highest hour unit so far has been around 40k. Looking forward to tomorrow and will be bringing in a system to compare monitors. :)

If the 40k performs right now, you can just as well pick it up. The hours really don't matter as long as the monitor works great NOW. D and A accept 480p as well, while the older ones only accept 240p and 480i. That's about the only thing you have to keep in mind. Tube quality (G vs. F) doesn't really matter for video game material. You won't see a difference.

For that price you can not go wrong then, as long as the monitors function normally and do not have any defects.

Low hours and high grade monitors, get these.

My BVM is over 25yrs old and works flawlessly....... if it's a good un, it's a good un. Forget about hours imo.

That reminds me of my dads old Delta table saw from the 50's. Still runs like a champ. :D

Well I was able to go through the BVMs and managed to grab quite a few(a 20G1U, a few D20F1Us and an A with SDI board). Some of the BVMs had issues and I was able to obtain the various input boards they had to fill up some of the empty slots for the BVMs I purchased (20D/21D/41HD/42HD/24N/25P/48X). All in all a great purchase and now need to clear some space.

Thanks for the assistance everyone!
