In those books, the galaxy doesn't even know that they were family.
While later stories have mostly treated it as common knowledge that Vader was the dad of Luke and Leia, in the Thrawn Trilogy, that wasn't the case. It's actually a major plot point that not even Thrawn, with all his knowledge and information, knows that they're related.
