Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Yeah, GameQuestDirect paid for the Persona 2 Eternal Punishment and Rhapsody reprints during Persona 4's heyday. I reckon Atlus learned from that experience that reprints of in-demand games (since when was there any demand for the PS2 Devil Summoner games anyway?) could generate a modest profit and increase interest in related games.

I do recall hearing that the first Raidou game in particular suddenly became tough to find a little ways back, though I got my own copy for 20 bucks a short time before that happened.Ganelon wrote:since when was there any demand for the PS2 Devil Summoner games anyway?
Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Was the first Raidou game any better than the second? I enjoyed that second game, but it was one of those titles that when I finished it, I had no interest in playing it again and promptly sold it. Of course, that's a lot of games, but it isn't a title I'd highly recommend.

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
I haven't played either to a huge extent, but if you weren't on cloud nine with the second game I doubt the first would do very much to change your mind.
Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
the second is a slight improvement but i never got into either of them either. I also picked a mint copy up for ~20 a few years prior to the price shooting up.
i remember that brief reprint of persona 2 on psx. atlus printed so few copies, they were gobbled up within an hour. its one of the few smt games i still dont own.
those playing dds1. if you intend on playing dds2, the save file can transfer over and a few items will be available on dds2 from the start. a few are obtained
on the 1st run, the best are obtained on the 2nd: notably after fighting the fiend. if you're struggling on a 1st playthrough, don't waste your time. the second
is unbelievably difficult (more difficult than a second playthrough of nocturne). demi fiend is extremely hard. there's some good methods out there but the fight often
boils down to luck. he has a tendency to cast javelin rain over and over and over. good challenge but frustrating as fuck

To celebrate my new job I decided to import a copy of Strange Journey to play on my 3DS XL between Monster Hunter sessions. Good move?

Oh very much so. It feels like the first two Shin Megami Tensei games done right. Great use of the Etrian Odyssey engine, and an absolutely mindblowing score.sjewkestheloon wrote:To celebrate my new job I decided to import a copy of Strange Journey to play on my 3DS XL between Monster Hunter sessions. Excellent. I look forward to it and it should keep me entertained for a good while too. I haven't played any of the modern first person dungeon crawlers that have come out over the last few years but I think my Might and Magic experience will come in handy as well as my small amount of knowledge of SMT demon fusing. Won't be here for a little while, however, as it is being shipped from the US.

You really owe it to yourself to pick up one of the Etrian Odyssey titles...

Pretty much. Raidou 2's release made it a hot commodity, I got it for $12 before that.BulletMagnet wrote:I do recall hearing that the first Raidou game in particular suddenly became tough to find a little ways back, though I got my own copy for 20 bucks a short time before that happened.Ganelon wrote:since when was there any demand for the PS2 Devil Summoner games anyway?
Raidou 1 = better story, Raidou 2 = better game.

Looks hype. The time travel or multiverse or whatever it is their doing here - concept looks very cool. I can't wait to see what they do with this game.

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
I definitely heard some classic track remixes in that trailer. The 8-bit version of the old man looked crazy dancing around there, too. Glad to see that they played around a little bit in development.
I still miss the press turn icon system. It's the reason I even slogged through Nocturne in the first place. It's crazy to think it's been nearly nine years already.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.
Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Looks excellent. Obviously I'd rather it was 1st person like SMT 1,2,If... and Strange Journey but I got used to the 3rd person in Nocturne so whatever. At least the devils are in 2D like Strange Journey.
Anyone want to lay a stake on when they think Atlus is going to announce a localisation? I'm 50+ hours through EO4 and it's still going strong, and Soul Hackers is out next month, so it feels a bit perverse being excited about this but excited I am...

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
The whole multiple universes thing is so canon of them. Secretly my favorite part about their franchise; it's like Stephen King's Universe - everything happens and is connected.
Unpopular myths and urban legends that never quite took off, like Aradia (daughter of Diana and Lucifer) being in there is so :3
Moar of that if possible, the current bestiary is so stale and rigid.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

Also, new Soul Hackers trailer.
Someone has to know who those first two voices belong to...
I think it's Six and a shopkeeper.

Shin Megami Tensei IV announced for a US release! It was pretty obvious that this was going to happen, but nice to have it confirmed. Even better, it's coming out this summer. I would have guessed it would be coming out roughly this time next year. Awesome! http://tmblr.co/ZbdYayhjbcDw

Good stuff - Nocturne's easily my favorite SMT game, hopefully this one follows in its footsteps.
Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Super excited about SMTIV this summer! ATLUS is just spoiling 3DS owners this year.
Has anyone ever played Revelations: The Demon Slayer, though? I'm curious if that one's any good.

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
I have extensive experience with Last Bible 1. It was a pretty solid little jRPG for the Gameboy at its time, when all we had as an alternative was SaGa (Chinpokomon was decades away). I would qualify it on the "bad" side of the scale these days, 2-3/5.Nana wrote:Has anyone ever played Revelations: The Demon Slayer, though? I'm curious if that one's any good.

And I can't wait for IV, fantastic news.
Boxart is hype too.

Most everyone here is probably aware already, but Soul Hackers for 3DS is out in the USA today - if you're thinking of picking it up, Atlus (or, more accurately, its parent company) could apparently use the money.

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Localization is fantastic, playing SH in English is surreal.
Part of me wonders if the reason this is so well received so far compared to Innocent Sin is because this didn't get a fan translation patch.
Well, that and it's on the 3DS and not the PSP.
They sure streamlined the game, like they were dead set on making sure the FPDC format wasn't a deal breaker to keep people away from the story. Battles are crazy fast, lots of voice work, and you can use an app to fill out every map in the game.

Looking forward to it. Kind of on 3DS overload right now, having just picked it up along with EO4 and Monster Hunter super hyper ultimate (never touched that series before.) That SMTIV packaging looks super awesome, especially after the slightly disappointing EOIV Limited Edition packaging...
Finally got round to ordering Soul Hackers. Up to the final boss on Etrian Odyssey IV, so should surely have that done in a week or so...

Re: The Shin Megami Everything Thread
Just played a few minutes of Soul hackers last night. Damn! Never touched this game before but it is a complete nostalgia trip with psx/saturn era FMVs and some of that good ol' 90's sci fi (old future?) Voice overs seem really nice too, who would have thought? Seems like I picked the right time to get a 3ds.
