1943 to Shogun
1943 to Shogun
I started on the NES with 1943. That was a while ago. What got me back into shmups was the purchase of a Nexus 7 tablet. I think Shogun and Xelorians are both state of the art shmups for the touchscreen. I've been downloading Japanese games like Crimzon Clover and Cho Ren Sha. I'm also playing great shooters like Waves, Satazius and Geometry Wars from Steam. Jets 'n' Guns is a hoot. I absolutely adore Sine Mora. Seems like great top-down scrollers are thin on the ground on the PC though. I have some old ones like Raptor and Tyrian 2000 from GOG but I'm looking for something new and awesome for my PC. Any suggestions?

All the shooters from these companies;
CAVE, Raizing, Psyikyo, Taito, Treasue, Qute, Milestone.
Anything by Siter Skain and Edelweiss as well.

For PC I would recommend shikigami no shiro 2. Tate your monitor and its great on PC.
I think you need to install the japanese language pack before it will run.

This is a risky introduction here. Welcome anyway.Kabalist wrote:I absolutely adore Sine Mora. Any suggestions?
You seem to have missed those full-action-tiny-hitbox shooters by Cave and such. Since you have a tablet, why not try some Dodonpachi Resurrection and/or Bug Princess ? If you like how those games flow, you might want to try them on a standard setting : console/PC + gamepad.
Bravo jolie Ln, tu as trouvé : l'armée de l'air c'est là où on peut te tenir par la main.
Re: 1943 to Shogun
Look up Gundemonium Recollection and EXCEED collection on steam, a million times better than Sine Mora.
Specially Hitogata Happa.

Ether Vapor Remaster is pretty decent. Can be found through Steam and Nyu Media's store.
Also, Jamestown on Steam is one of the better shmup offerings. Great for getting into the genre.
For Windows shmups, you could feasibly track down the Windows ports of G-Darius and Darius Gaiden, but those never got digital distribution and might be pricey (Darius Gaiden is $30, last I checked). PC windows port of RayStorm is dirt cheap though. But those are all old (but fantastic) shooters and you might not want to deal with CD-roms.
I know there was a topic a little while back detailing PC releases of shmups, so if someone knows where that is...
