Recommended Anime/Manga?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
SHORT-PEACE 7.20
Valvrave looks like a cheap Gundam substitute, I never liked the idea of school girls/boys + Robots.
Gargantia and Shingeki all the way.
Also Ghost in the Shell ARISE Border:1 Ghost Pain.

Gargantia looks nice, and Short Peace looks astounding.KAI wrote:SHORT-PEACE 7.20

And yes I do know Valvrave probably will be crap, but I was trying to keep myself excited :p

Read the action shonen manga about the boy with his pet handster buddy due to peer pressure.
Wasn't thrilled about it. At least there were bewbs sometime after all the angst sea.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Patlabor TV episode 30 - great stuff, though I think I kinda prefer the single episode storylines rather than this overarching 'Griffin' story...
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
imma watch Robot Carnival now
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Presence was 110% creepy o_O
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Umetsu Yasuomi is an interesting director. He's also known for making that really violent Kite. I think he also did the series Mezzo. He has a distinct way of doing the eyes really round and tries to make the animated movement really smooth... without CG (I think). Sort of like Urushihara, in my opinionRaytrace wrote:Presence was 110% creepy o_O

Oh yeah, and FUCK Valvrabe!

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
of the 3 'groups of things' I've watched (Memories, Neo Tokyo and Robot Carnival)
I'd have to say Robot Carnival is my least favourite, there wasn't anything I completely disliked in it, but there wasn't anything I absolutely loved in it either.
My favourite individual episode out of all 3 is Magnetic Rose, but in terms of which 'film' I enjoyed most overall, it was probably Neo Tokyo, because that had the majesty of Running Man AND The Order To Stop Contruction.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I remember seeing Robot Carnival at the cinema, on teevee, and on video back in 1993, so I have very fond memories of it, although "The Running Man" was the catalyst for me getting into anime and manga in a big way in 1992

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
yeah Robot Carnival definitely was good, just not quite as amaze as the other two.xbl0x180 wrote:I remember seeing Robot Carnival at the cinema, on teevee, and on video back in 1993, so I have very fond memories of it, although "The Running Man" was the catalyst for me getting into anime and manga in a big way in 1992
Running Man is pure adrenalin (ok speed) on celluloid :p, as is Redline
I'm taking a rare break from anime to watch The Naked Gun now

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I like Umetsu, he just doesn't do enough. His animation style is extremely solid, some of the best action sequence compositions I've seen in recent (well, not so recent) years.xbl0x180 wrote:Umetsu Yasuomi is an interesting director.Raytrace wrote:Presence was 110% creepy o_O
He's also expert at smoothly animating super huge members travelling smoothly into smooth vaginas, but at least it actually attempts to be full graphic pornography instead of the usual hinting at stuff in-between flashes of nipple.

are the action sequences in non-pervo things? I would be interested in seeing them, but don't really want to watch your next sentence you described :p
I'm almost finished Patlabor TV - high quality throughout

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Kite and the "Yellow Star" episode from Cool Devices Series most definitely warrant the NC-17 or adults only age rating. I believe Kite was available in North America as an edited version for years before deciding to release an uncut version. If it had to be edited in the U.S. for sex and violence, then you KNOW it can get pretty bad
HOWEVER, he did do the 90s OAV versions of Casshan and it is one of the better versions...

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Both Kite and Mezzo exist in clean versions. Kite without the pedo stuff, Mezzo without the scenes that were clearly created to be excised, since they conveniently don't work within the plot.Raytrace wrote:are the action sequences in non-pervo things? Umetsu has a talent for animation: tons of weight and kineticism, his action is genuinely awesome. I'd recommend going for the full sex experience, simply because it's way more impressive than any hentai you'll ever see, ever. It's like they traced a porno.

Sort of like Urushihara Satoshi's Front Innocent and Kounai Shasei segments

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Surely not as extreme as Mezzo?xbl0x180 wrote:Sort of like Urushihara Satoshi's Front Innocent and Kounai Shasei segments

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Front Innocent is some of the best animated hardcore pornography out there

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Yeah, I can vouch for that. Easily my favorite, as far as quality goes. Front Innocent/Another Lady Innocent is pure hentai, so it's easily as extreme, but much more content. The Tales segments aren't as graphic, yet the content is, with a particular segment being quite disturbing in a sense. Been awhile since I've watched Kite, although I do prefer Mezzo Forte a bit better, especially considering the aforementioned fantastic action. Never have checked out the series. Any good?xbl0x180 wrote:Front Innocent is some of the best animated hardcore pornography out there

comon guys can't we just talk about robots? (*^_^*) :p
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I don't know about the series. I only have the double-feature pack with the uncut OAVs (at least, I think they're the uncut versions). Each one of these comes in, like, three different cuts/versions. It's fucked up trying to keep track which one is which. I usually see Mezzo Forte, the series, in the barg'in bin sales of TRSI's. During Christmas sales, it goes for less than 10 bucks!drauch wrote:Yeah, I can vouch for that. Easily my favorite, as far as quality goes. Music videos based on Ozaki Minami's Zetsu Ai 1989 and Bronze: Cathexis - all done by different directors, including Kawajiri Yoshiaki of "The Running Man" fame. The Cockpit was also made up of short stories... and it included a segment by Kawajiri Yoshiaki

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Twilight Q – 2 episode OVA with Tomomi Mochizuki and Mamoru Oshii directing one apiece.
Ani*Kuri15 – 15 1-minute shorts all with different directors, including Oshii, Kon, Shinkai Makoto and various other Madhouse, Gainax and Production IG guys.
The Animatrix – Matrix backstories. Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Shin`ichirou Watanabe, the Aeon Flux guy plus others all direct one each in this 9 ep OVA.
I'm positive I'm forgetting some obscure ones but that's all I can think of atm.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Can you guys recomend me some good japanese animation movies I can watch with my family? no action or extreme violence because my 5 and 3 year old sisters may watch then too.
I've already watched with then most of the Miyazaki repertoire.
