Is that really what I think it is? I hope they doesn't mix scores if you use that. How difficult for then must have been doing something like that to one of their STG's...

It was stated in the a translation by blackoak that the money to purchase the items are "in game" not real money.

In the FPS genre, its a common feature that after you clear the game once, you unlock different modes, like invincibility mode, or infinite ammo mode. For the STG genre, I want to create unlockables options like making the hitbox smaller (or larger), or continuous hyper mode... things that would add more options to how you can play the game. I also want to add an illustration gallery mode, which we haven't really had in any of our games so far. Of course, you won't use real money in this shop, only coins which you're rewarded with in-game.

Hopefully full auto is just a superplay?

Either way, I don't really think Cave totally understands how to appeal to a mainstream market...

It's Asada. These are the types of ideas he has: let's integrate things from other genres into shmups because the other genres are more popular. Thankfully this type of thing can never work in an arcade game so at least the game boards and arcade modes are safe. Should be at least.

People like the shop in Mars Matrix... I don't see what the problem is here.
Also, Full-Auto Pilot are probably just an in game replays.

Yeah, I remember in one of his interviews he said he'd never 1cc'd a Cave game (except maybe Deathsmiles). I get the impression he wasn't that much of a fan of the genre anyhow. It's like they're trying to edge round the problem of coming up with good games by adding tons of fluff, ironic considering this was a "getting back to basics" shooter.

Cave seem to focus on this stuff rather than pushing the fact that it's an accurate port of an arcade game - the ports don't even have an arcade mode anymore. I mean, if you're not interested in the arcade version why would you give a toss about shop unlockables.

Wonder what Yagawa thinks of this crap.

They've said in interviews that there is a belief that having a shooting game have an arcade release and having the port have added content are the only way to make them sell well and actually I think they are sadly correct. People were crying about the idea that it might not have an arrange soundtrack version. WTF, is all I could think to myself. But I was thinking the unlockable stuff, if it and all your ingame money all disappears after the end of each game it's not really a deal breaker because the playing field would still stay even per game. It's the idea you could play it over and over and build up money and a cheat fortress that would kill it, for me. But I'm not sure how it works. Maybe it's a build up over time thing, which equates to complete pussification.

I don't think it's sad at all.

Unless they were planning on two different releases - one with a bare-bones straight arcade port for a "bargain" price and another with added modes for a premium.

Or they could accomplish the same thing with DLC, but everyone hates on DLC with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, and it's probably more profitable overall for them to just have a single 'normal' priced release with the extra content included.

In conclusion, PLAY SHMUPS E'ERY DAY

I wonder how much difference it would have made to their profit though to just release it as a pure port only, bundled with the already done ost for $100 and then spend the months they spent making the extra whore song and teddy content instead doing the next game. I wonder how many people would actually pass on it.

There have been no announcements of anything, were there? I for one would not be surprised if this will be their last shmup ever. Whatever happens, they had a good run at least.

I don't even know who the girl is, but every time she was brought up here from the first announcement on, there is always a mention of her whore reputation to the point where it now defines her. I haven't heard anything about a next game from them. I just said they could have spent their work time on one instead.

As schumpfarm's chaplain I planned the last two CAVE funerals and ended up wasting a whole lot of time and money. Do you know how hard it is to source pallbearing lolis?

Not really. The impression a game creates is from its gameplay only.
gray117 wrote:It may not yet have put too many off the core game, but there's been precious little argument in this thread about any of these choices actually strengthening the game experience.
It's been proven 18,000 times over that these choices do not affect the game experience.
Proven? 18,000? What's this proven statement... number of pre-orders perhaps?

This must be why we're playing games made that look like minimaps, no one cares about soundtracks or posters, and cave is one of the most profitable companies in the world...

I'm annoyed a games aesthetic choices are putting me off, I'm happy for you if you really are part of the very small percentage whose ludic agility transcends (nearly) all, but I don't know how you can say that the impression a game creates is from gameplay only.

Why would you play games at all if this was so? OMFG vertical reaction and memorisation scorer 2013! Get!

They strengthen the blood flow to your nether regions, which helps mitigate high brain blood pressure caused by agitation during gameplay.
And consider it's coming from a country where stuff like this is somewhat popular (among the target audience).

Proven?
Well, then it's your turn to explain how these choices:
- impairs the player's ability to play for score
- impairs the player's ability to play for survival
- breaks the collision detection of the game
- gives the game input lag
- gives the game an unstable frame rate
- causes HUD elements to spontaneously disappear
- causes your ship to automatically maneuver itself
- causes integers that lack a sign to flowingly implode
- gives people aids
Good ruck.
This must be why we're playing games made that look like minimaps, no one cares about soundtracks or posters
What?
Also, I listen to video game soundtracks religiously and I do care for aesthetics. When I'm not playing games, that is.
Why would you play games at all if this was so? OMFG vertical reaction and memorisation scorer 2013! Get!
You just have yet to grasp the true meaning of manliness.
Also, you do realize this is the mentality of a) graphic whores b) Call of Dooty fans c) Bioshock fans d) pretentious art game fans e) Touhou fangirls f) people with a waifu, don't you?
Why would you play games for the game itself? Uhhhh, is this a trick question?
Wait, people are still going on about her?
No no, let's not open this can of worms again. I don't want the female defense force to raid this thread for the 40th time.

That's the direction I was trying to steer the thread into; although at this point it's become as repetitive as the whining. Maybe I should also stop giving a fuck about telling people to not give a fuck about things that are not worth giving a fuck.
