I tried using VirtuaDub to capture with some other app as the "device" that seem to stream the video into VirtuaDub but the framerate is choppy and weird whatever I try. So if someone has a working capture setup and are willing to give it a go or just write a comprehensive guide I can follow I'd be very happy. And believe me, this replay is magical stuff, otherwise I wouldn't bother with it.

Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
I have this awesome Solomon's Key replay (by player "M.") since a couple of years now and I've tried to do a nice screen cap of it, but it's just too hard to figure out how stuff works. The MAME version used obviously doesn't have the -aviwrite command enabled, or I wouldn't ask this here.

I think you can upload INPs to jammaplay, though I've never tried it.

Yeah, try using Fraps. If it doesn't hook to your Mame enter the properties of the rom and set it so it uses Direct3D or Direct Draw.
That should work.
That should work.

I'll give FRAPS a go then. I believe you can't capture fullscreen only windowed mode, right? MAME is setup to run in a 480p window using DirectDraw with Hardware Stretch OFF.

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
OK, so FRAPS starts recording until I run the replay, then it just records audio and a static image. When MAME starts the playback, Windows7 changes the colour scheme to "Windows7 Basic". Is AERO a must for FRAPS? Also, when I press the HOTKEY to start a recording (a second time) nothing happens!
Am I only allowed to make ONE 30 second clip before I buy this - before even knowing if it works or not? I'm forced to use MAME 0.67 for this replay btw.
EDIT: Apparantly, FRAPS can't handle anything else than Direct3D (not available in MAME 0.67).
I guess I'll have to record my LCD screen with my camera.

FRAPS should also capture DirectDraw when correctly configured.

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
You should be able to record with vdub without problems. Just disable Aero and use the normal screen capture with Lagarith. If you drop frames you might need to adjust the buffer (or your PC is just not up for the task).
Edit: Just tried to record AoE II with Fraps and it worked. Afaik that game uses DirectDraw.

Have you tried to run everything in XP compability mode? I'm not sure but maybe it will work better if you disable aero.

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
First of all, thanks for the FRAPS 3.0 link. It didn't matter though, I only get a black video file with sound. I tried VirtualDub again with Lagarinth and SUCCESS! It doesn't do sound at the same time though for some reason, but I can live with having to capture that separately and do a mux later. Video seems very fluid and accurate, I'm gonna try and tweak the settings a bit to get it perfect though. Thanks everyone, hopefully I'll be able to present the results soonish.

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
glad I could help you. But remember to record .imp files in another MAME. Fraps is usually your best bet when recording games so use it whenever you can.emphatic wrote:First of all, thanks for the FRAPS 3.0 link. Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
I got the video now, but I did get about 120 dropped frames. Will this affect A/V sync when I mux it with my recorded audio or should the video just appear like it's skipping or freezing? I guess I'll find out soon enough. Video looks great, the best thing about capturing like this is that your MAME video filters (like scanlines) get included without post processing, which I think is neat. I wonder how good a capture of those fancy new CRT emulation filters would look...

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
If the capture has been lossless AVI (Which should weight a lot of GB) then it's possible your PC can't synch the audio and video; the weight of the file may be the source of stuttering and skipping also. You'll have to convert it to mp4 and see if the desynch is still there.
How did you get scanlines is interesting for me. I'm planing to loop Ketsui and upload the replay to youtube so maybe I can get those scanlines.

Re: Help me capture an old .inp to YouTube
Oh, and I had to set my graphics to 16bit colour or something in Windows related to screen capture would crash and I couldn't record. Maybe this is why FRAPS etc didn't work for me either. I'm struggling to have the audio recorded now.

Stereo mix has been removed from Windows7: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/39532/ho ... ord-audio/O. Van Bruce wrote:wait, you aren't getting sound now? have you set your recording device to stereo mix?

The .inp replay I found @ MARP in one of their "must see replays"-threads. I have no idea who "m." is, sadly.lettuce wrote:So how did you come across this video in the first place and who is player 'M'??
