Recommended XBL Shmups?
I got Strania and Chrono Blast, and have been enjoying them greatly. I have quite a few left over points though, so are there any other really good shmups available on xbl that I should know about? Only thing I know of right now are Triggerheart Exelica (still thinking about) and Trouble Witches Neo (don't know if good). Does anybody have any other recommendations?

Bangai-O (if that counts)
Ikaruga
Guange
Radiant Silvergun
Time Pilot (may be a bit too old for some people but I like it)
Also see the list of Indie games here.

Some others, not going to recommend these over Jeneki's list though, those are all great.
Space Invaders: Infinity Gene - pretty good game from what I recall(was fairly fun to 1cc), the added levels to this/PSN port are great. soundtrack is great in the later stages.
Galaga Legions & DX - wave based memorizer thing, idk. DX is more of a score attack version. great presentation.
Raystorm HD - Forced widescreen, part of the original play area is cropped off. Leaderboards are sorta glitchy.. not recommending this much, especially since the other two ray series games are better IMO.

I actually already have Raystorm on the Taito Legends 2 collection. Ikaragua I'm holding out for Dreamcast eversion. RSG I'm still put off by the claims of input lag.
Guwange sounds pretty tantalizing, though I might just wait till I get through some of my other Cave games before I dive into that.

This list shows games that are labeled with the Shoot'em Up genre tag.
It doesn't show Indie or XBLIG games but it does show every XBLA and Retail game that even remotely looks like or play as Shoot'em Up games.

I'm a fan of Shoot-1up myself. It's Indie and only costs a buck.

The XBL shmup of Trouble Witches Neo has a bit of bonus content (for added play value) compared to it's orginal Taito Type X arcade release of the same name.

Go to the XBLIG section and DL Score Rush, and Decimation X3.Squire Grooktook wrote:I got Strania and Chrono Blast, and have been enjoying them greatly. As you're also buying indies (thanks btw!) I think you might do well to check out Vorpal. It doesn't let you tate as far as I know, but it's clearly written by someone who's played a fair amount of Touhou.Squire Grooktook wrote:I got Strania and Chrono Blast, and have been enjoying them greatly. It's got it's own fairly simplistic style and I think it's definitely a game that will grow on you. I actually used to think it was terrible, then it kinda grew on me over time. It's also only 80msp

If vertizontal is your thing (again, talking Indie stuff here) - of course you should check out Vampire Rage, Shoot 1 Up and Snops Attack.
Xona games stuff has already been mentioned - but yeah, definitely check those guys out! (Dec X3/Score rush etc)

Triggerheart is good.
Guwange is essential.
Radiant silvergun is utter tripe.
Ikaruga Is.... hmm... good but it's memorisation in the most extreme sense. I used to quite like it. I don't anymore.
Just try the demos.

Re: Recommended XBL Shmups?
Yeah, Score Rush is really good. Wish I had people to play it with, bet it would be fun in multiplayer.
If you like Touhou, you should try Aeternum. It seems heavily inspired by Touhou. It has pretty much all the same game mechanics, light-hearted story and humour, colourful bullets and the bullets/patterns feel like something from Touhou as well. They even named the hardest difficulty Lunatic. Only difference is it's horizontal instead of vertical, but the demo is worth checking out at the least if you wanna give it a try.
By the way, there's an offer, starting in april, where if you buy 4 games from the arcade worth 800 points, you get 800 points refunded. So you can buy 5 for the price of 4. You need to be signed up for the rewards system if you aren't already.

I think it is worth mentioning that Snops Attack has no local or on-line leaderboard as far as I know. That is an incredible game though.
Score Rush is also free with an online leaderboard if you fancy playing on the PC as well: http://xona.com/scorerush/

If you like Forgotten Worlds, check out Omega V.
Try out R-Type Dimensions... you might like it or hate it.
