Japanese Xbox360 and violence "censoring" from US/EU Games

Post by Moosmann »

This is one importand thread for owners an japanese Xbox 360 ;)

The japanese Xbox 360 "censored" some US and EU games. The US/EU Resident Evil 5 run censored as "Biohazard 5" on a japanese Xbox 360. Mega Man 9 & 10 (from german xbla marketplace) also run with japanese text and "Rockman".

I downloaded the official Resident Evil 6 Demo from the german marketplace and it is also censored (the heads can not be shot down). With "Bio Hazard 6" Title screen, but with english/german language text.

1.) Works the "Retail" US and PAL Version from Resident Evil 6 censored as "Biohazard 6" or uncensored as "Resident Evil 6" on a japanese Xbox 360 ? Can somebody test them ?

2.) Which other US/EU games works in "japanese" and/or censored on a japanese Xbox 360 ? How is it at Lollipop Chainsaw.

Greetings Markus

Not censorship. Those are the original game names and text. It detects that your system is Japanese and plays them in the according region. I believe you can change this setting on the 360 dashboard.

Also sounds like normal behavior, but the heads thing sounds... not right. The Japanese don't censor shit like that.

As I said earlier, the Japanese rarely censor. Only times I've seen it are:
1) nudity (penis and vagina are usually mosaic'd out)
2) cultural insensitivity (things like setting off atom bombs are sometimes removed [see fallout 3 and the atom bomb quest])

Violence is rarely, if ever, censored.

Censorship in japanese video games has changed a lot over the past years. The Biohazard series has indeed been heavily censored (in terms of blood and gore) with the recent series' entries.

Wow really? That's surprising. Typical Capcom though...

BIOHAZARD numbered games have been censored starting since 4 but I wasn't aware of any specifics from 5 or 6.

Wait what? I have played the US version of Resident Evil 5 and 6 on my japanese xbox 360, does that mean I have played a censored game instead of a simple title change?

By the way, US Front Mission Evolved run in japanese mode on a Japanese Xbox 360.

You should be fine then. 6 has censored splattering headshots in the Japanese console and PC versions. 5 on PC in Japan is not censored but the console versions are.
