XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
So I finally got the XRGB-3 Today and wanted to know the correct setting for PS2
I'm using an EURO to Jap Scart Adapter with a RGB cable into Game In of the XRGB-3 and VGA out on my HD LCD TV. I heard PS2 is bad wih XRGB-3 scaling but in VGA mode output isn't it possible to get nice results . I heard using a Moniter with XRGB-3 and a PS2 gives excellent picture . Is this only for monitors? Or also HDTV with VGA socket
many thanks in advance

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
as straight forward as it gets. Do you have any problems ? The only downside to your setup is that this way you cannot use 480p output from your PS2 (without switching both the PS2's output and the XRGB's input to component).

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Fudoh the picture just looks the same as it would if I just plugged in RGB Scart into my LCD TV
No difference with xrgb3
What setting should I use

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Then you must have a very, very good TV
What mode do you use or do you want to use ?? B0 for uspcaling without scanlines or B1 for linedoubling with scanlines ?

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Lol I'm using VGA output so it's B1 mode I think it all looks pixelated I'm trying ONIMUSHA 3 game on the PS2
Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Only by using VGA you can't assume that you're on B1. B0 supports DVI and VGA. Have you switched to B1 ?Lol I'm using VGA output so it's B1 mode
isn't that the point ? Keeping out the blurry scaling on the TV's side and replacing it with "pixelated" scaling on the XRGB's side ?I think it all looks pixelated
that's a 480i game, right ? The XRGB has a TERRIBLE deinterlacer in B0 and no deinterlacing whatsoever in B1.I'm trying ONIMUSHA 3 game on the PS2

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
About the pixelating it didn't look clean at all blurry, I've seen sharp pixelated look on Castlevania SotN ON XBLA (amazing game) and it looks nothing like that
Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
a PS2 is a many-feathered beast. 240p is great on the XRGB and for transcoding 480p the XRGB is fine as well. For 480i you have to differentiate between slow and fast games. Slow games (RPGs or slow action like Onimusha) will look best with a great deinterlacer (like the Edge), but if you play a fast 480i game (Taito Memories or some fighting game or Ibara) the non-deinterlacing on the XRGB's B1 mode is just great, since the faster gamemodes on a processor like the Edge will just crush the quality on those signals.Ok cool so there's no point using XRGB-3 with PS2 then. Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
SotN on XBLA looks like shit compared to SotN running on a PS2 though the XRGB-3. If you want clear and supersharp, get the XRGB into B0 mode and set the resolution to something with more than 1000 lines. On B0 only the high resolutions are good.I've seen sharp pixelated look on Castlevania SotN ON XBLA
Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
When i used my ps2 with xrgb i have it with "game in" input, and change from RGB to YePbr for some progressive scan games, and overall i get better results using "Graphics Synthesizer Mode Selector (aka: GSM)" application. You can run it from your memory card. It will force PS2 to output a progressive scan picture.

Fudoh I thought Castlevania SotN looks amazing if it can look better than that then that's pretty amazing. I might give get myself a copy of the PSX version of eBay then.
Update I'm trying it on my main TV which has no VGA I'm using HDMI TO DVI and indeed it does look shape and pixelated it definetly an improvement over normal RGB socket on TV
I also noticed the game played faster more responsive I always thought something was slightly off when I was playing without xrgb3 I thought it was he official ps2 wireless katana controller which had slow response on button presses but no . Wow it's amazing speed wise 0 lag feels like I'm playing the game for the first time amazing Thanks again Matey

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
SotN might be a bad example to draw on since it actually looks (to my eyes at least) fairly decent on XBLA. If you want to see how bad things can get, try the recently released Dalkstalkers port.
To second what Overkill said, the GSM mode selector tool is well worth looking into as well.
That's B0 mode then, that's about a frame of lag, could easily be better than what your TV normally does though. I always found B0 mode impossibly finicky to work with, if you can get 1080p output working on your TV you're very lucky.Update I'm trying it on my main TV which has no VGA I'm using HDMI TO DVI and indeed it does look shape and pixelated it definetly an improvement over normal RGB socket on TV

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Yes 1080p works in B0 mode using HDMI to DVI on my TV.
I'm very curious about this App that forces all games on PS2 to Progressive will it work on a Non-modded console since its a homebrew app
Castlevania SotN on XBLA with original Graphics not enhanced looks great

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
It will work on all consoles, moded or not, except the last PS2 slim revision SCPH-7700x (the slim without power AC). You will just need a memory card formated in a special way with "Free McBoot" then you can launch all the homebrew apps you want.
That way, and forcing progressive scan on games like King of fighters neowave and others i solved the screen issues on the xrgb 3 with the screen flashing and loosing sync

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Hi overkill sorry for the belated reply I checked my PS2 and unfortunately it's the latest model
All is not lost I'm investing in a DVDO Edge should have it in 3 weeks or so. I'm really curious to see how the PS2 quality will look on it. Thanks guys for all the help

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
You won't be disappointed. Just remember to turn game mode off for the best looking results with 480i, although bear in mind that mode will give the most lag also.
Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
If you have an XRGB3, with the DVDO Edge the best setup maybe will be xrgb3 in B1 mode to DVDO edge with game mode turned On.
By the way, i like very much my ps2 with component output in 480i to DVDO edge, gives similar results to an PS3 with backwards compatibility playing ps2 games with upscaling on.

Re: XRGB-3 Help with Setting for PS2
Thanks Kei I totally forgot about Game mode on my tv, the option for was hidden away on my TV
I switched it on for the XRGB-3 wih my ps2 using RGB game in and it made a noticable difference in the game speed. I was playing Final Fantasy XII and I'm loving it on my XRGB even in B0 mode it's great. The almost zero lag more than makes up for the pixelated graphics. Nice speed like on CRT
