glad i got my preorder in early - it's a bit of a common theme recently with a lot of SLE/LE preorders being gone early and then flipped en masse :(

Ha ha, weird! Contact a moderator and tell them you need a password reset for your old account to be sent to a new email address. That should be easy to arrange. Then you can go back to being plain old dcharlie, post count and all.

I decided to double-dip after all, even tho I already completed it on 360. Picked Amiami (again) for my shmup preorders. April (Caladrius), May (SDOJ & SL 10th) and July (Ketsui PS3) be fun shmup months~ <3

Also does anyone think that Sony will "force" 5pb to add something new like a widescreen mode?
No. You're getting Ketsui EX and DOJBLEX confused; Ketsui EX has not received any patch to my knowledge, nor did it need one. Ketsui EX was done by a completely different developer and had none of DOJBLEX's well-publicized issues, nor was Mihara/Arika involved in Ketsui EX in any shape or form.

On the widescreen, it's probably too soon to say. It's notable that many PS3 releases sport widescreen modes - Mamoru-kun is a particularly notable example since the PS3 version has a widescreen mode that didn't exist in the original arcade or 360 versions.

There is really no more excuse for Cave not to port everything, except for them being out of money at this point.

Except that Cave may be more inclined to let 5pb do it - no effort on Cave's part in exchange for a little more coin. Of course 5pb would only be interested if Ketsui does well - and they are running out of time for making money on PS3 ports fast.

Also their rights over Ketsui must expire soon, so hence their haste to do the port. They want to profit it as soon as posible. Anyway I dont see it selling too well since almost everyone that wants it already has it on 360.
As someone mentioned before, MamoruKun bit the dust.

People whine about companies porting games to PS3 in Japan, I explain why it makes sense to port to PS3, you don't get the explanation. Does that sum it up properly?

Neither port charted in the Media Create top 50 for the week they were released, so both must have sold quite poorly. The lowest ranking game of that week where sales numbers are publicly known was #20 with 7,607 units sold.

It is fucking embarrassing friendly, it just never ends with you.

Regarding Cave porting all of their shmups to PS3, never say never, but highly unlikely. Firstly, as I mentioned twice already, this is 5pb making a little extra from their licence, nothing to do with Cave (they don't get royalties either.)
If it sells as badly as Mamoru Kun there willl be no interest in following suit from anyone - 360 might be hopeless in Japan, but the established userbase of shmuppers is enough to make the genre profitable. It's a miracle of sorts and a large debt is owed to Cave for their investment in the console.

Finally, for reasons unconfirmed, Cave just don't seem to dig Sony. They've had 5 years to get on board, but have chosen not to. It's weird for sure, since there must be profit in raising a profile on PS3, but they're just not interested.

Then again if we saw a PS3 Cave Shooting Collection with even more additional content and all DLC on their respective discs, I really wouldn't be surprised.

Has there been any consensus as to why Mamoru Kun didn't sell well? It didn't strike me as having much of a following compared to something like Ketsui and was a niche game in an already niche genre, so we could be surprised and Ketsui might do well considering its age, the console it's being ported to, the smaller fanbase of shmup players, etc.

For the JPN market I dunno but at the time the game was pretty much hated on by folk here who had the 360 port so I guess not that many ppl bothered to import.

lol WTF the game has a JPN budget version, It might have sold more than we originally thought. I mean no one in there right mind would rerelease a game that sold around 1-3k copies would they? (unless its there to make the price more palatable to western importers)

You know what is so disconcerting about the J360 is that it has such a low market penetration, with no fresh blood into the genre it's easy to see why CAVEs domestic sales are dwindling and the west has a larger fanbase (which makes me scratch my head over MOSS and Triangle service region locking). With those figures it's like sustaining the genre with just NG-Devteam doing DC STGs in the west. That said there is doujin so I guess that helps bring in new players.

It's easy to see why so much of CAVEs profit's comes from iphone sales, which makes me wonder why they cancelled AKS Vita port. Also how the WiiU is fairing doesn't bode well for them, as the touchscreen and the lack of 3rd party support make it the best logical choice moving forward to the next gen. I've got a funny feeling that a big reason we haven't heard much of CAVE recently (other than possibly going bust) is that they have been developing for the WiiU and are now cursing their bad luck of picking yet another failed console.

As for any other possible PS3 ports, they certainly won't do it themselves, instead they'll let a 3rd party do it like they've already done with their android ports.
Jeneki wrote:360 outsold Wii U last week? Dang ninty, pick up the pace.
I know, atm the WiiU is an abysmal failure, I mean ninty haven't even put in any effort themselves. A mediocre 2D Mario game, pikman and a Wind Walker HD port doesn't cut it. I would have atleast expected there would be a crapton of announcements to get ppl excited for the future. It's like Ninty themselves have abandoned the WiiU for the 3DS just like all the 3rd parties have. Given that the Durango and PS4 will be out soon ninty are mad to sit on their hands as I doubt Sony will make the same mistake as they did the PS3 and MS seem to be lining up the durango to be casual friendly with kinect 2 inbuilt to the machine.
